Clinical Pharmacist I – PRN Join MedStar Health as a Clinical Pharmacist on a PRN basis at Union Memorial Hospital.

We are primarily looking for candidates with evening availability on weekdays and weekends – Preferably 3 evenings per week (2:30pm‑11:00pm) and every 2nd or 3rd Saturday and Sunday (1:30pm‑10pm or 2:30pm‑11pm depending on need).

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Evaluates medication orders for accuracy and resolves discrepancies with physicians, pharmacists, or nursing staff, and dispenses medication.

Assesses feasibility and verifies compounding of extemporaneous products, recommending alternatives when appropriate.

Prepares IV admixtures and composes sterile products, including large‑volume parenteral mini‑bags, TPN solutions, and hazardous agents such as cytotoxic drugs.

Independently responds to non‑evaluative drug information requests.

Monitors patient drug therapy, ensuring optimal drug selection and minimal adverse reactions under supervision of a senior pharmacist.

Reviews patient profiles for contraindications with prescriptions, screens drugs/dosages for appropriateness, and participates in monitoring drug therapy under a clinical‑level pharmacist or above in a decentralized setting.

Dispenses controlled substances and maintains perpetual inventory, ensuring legal and departmental policy compliance.

Provides technical supervision of support personnel, oversees workflow and attendance, and verifies technicians’ accuracy in medication preparation and packaging.

Enters and verifies computer entries and data for drug orders; may instruct patients/families on safe medication use and counsel them on potential adverse effects.

Minimal Qualifications Education

Doctoral degree PharmD or an equivalent Pharmacy degree from an accredited college of Pharmacy required.

Experience

1–2 years of direct patient‑care experience in a hospital setting required.

PGY‑1 preferred.

Licenses & Certifications

RPH – Registered Pharmacist Licensure in the state of Maryland required.

Board certification preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Verbal and written communication skills.

Basic computer skills preferred.

Compensation USD $102,606.00 – $196,996.00 per year.
