Job Scope / Complexity Develop solutions based on extensive technical knowledge, influencing clients toward innovative solutions. Responsible for the full life cycle of medium to large complex projects, ensuring uptime commensurate with clinical, business, education, or enterprise critical systems. Projects typically involve 501–3000 concurrent users and can impact multiple departments.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities Systems Analysis/Design (Environment/Platform)
Design complex business, clinical, education, or infrastructure solutions by meeting with customers to observe and understand current processes and issues.
Provide written documentation and diagrams of findings to share with the client and other IT colleagues.
Design solutions that conform to institutional policies, standards, guidelines, and best practices.
Select infrastructure applications, working with vendors, customers, and other sources (e.g., open‑source or Internet2 initiatives).
Develop new methods to improve service processes, performance, and functionality.
Research, recommend, and implement new technologies based on value to the institution.
Work with vendor processes and products to improve quality and fit, demonstrating initiative for improvements.
Install & Configure
Install and configure complex server hardware and operating systems following technical documentation.
Evaluate, implement, and manage appropriate software and hardware solutions using best practices.
Install and configure infrastructure applications in line with product directions.
Implement a schedule of system backups and archive operations to ensure data recoverability.
Maintain & Troubleshoot
Provide complex server‑level administration, managing hardware/software, maintenance, upgrades, patches, account maintenance, and backups.
Monitor and tune the system to achieve optimum performance.
Develop complex scripts and solutions to automate system management.
Perform complex system software upgrades, including planning, scheduling, testing, and coordination.
Design and integrate security authorization and access control; audit and maintain user access.
Generate and maintain periodic system reports to assess performance, integrity, and capacity.
Follow IT security awareness and best practices.
Utilize system management and monitoring tools and incident tracking systems to detect incidents and determine root cause.
Monitor changes and resolve incidents, ensuring solutions meet customer requirements.
Project Collaboration & Lifecycle Participation
Implement changes while adhering to change management policies.
Develop RFPs from requirements, following institutional and purchasing guidelines.
Evaluate vendor proposals and select the most appropriate vendor.
Assist vendors, consultants, and internal groups in developing applications.
Participate in project team meetings and provide input.
Author and maintain documentation for technical and end‑user reference.
Develop test scenarios and test changes to ensure solutions work as expected.
May participate in institutional and departmental committees and initiatives.
Additional Duties
Lead and support email‑related projects such as migrations, upgrades, and integrations.
Develop documentation, diagrams, SOPs, and training materials for junior staff and other teams.
Provide input for internal roadmap planning and infrastructure decisions.
Support ticket assignments as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Four years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for required experience up to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
