About The Role
S'P Global Ratings is one of the world’s leading providers of independent credit risk research and benchmarks. As an Associate Director on the Municipal and Cooperative Power team, you will lead credit analysis for public power and municipal cooperatives ratings, and support utility revenue ratings covering water, sewer, and solid-waste issuers across the nation.
You will meet with issuers, assess historical and projected data, compile findings into committee presentations and written analysis, collaborate with cross-practice energy teams, assist in client needs, participate in investor calls, and lead research for publications or special projects. You will represent the team as a participant or speaker at conferences, webinars, and with the media.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as primary analyst on complex credit transactions and prepare well-supported rating recommendations for rating committees.
Act as an active voting member of the rating committee.
Publish timely and insightful credit reports and relevant research pieces.
Demonstrate strong knowledge of rating criteria and financial statement analysis; stay informed on relevant news affecting credit quality in the municipal bond market and energy sector.
Function as a sector expert on credits, publish thought‑leadership pieces, and represent the company to external stakeholders.
Mentor and provide analytic support to junior analysts.
Lead operational and process improvements, maintaining analytical excellence and a risk mindset.
Manage multiple key projects and conflicting priorities to ensure timely delivery of high‑quality work.
Demonstrate adaptability by making difficult decisions and adjusting to changing circumstances while focusing on long‑term goals.
Bring new thinking and curiosity to create innovative solutions with a long‑term perspective.
Required Qualifications
University degree required; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.
Five to seven years of relevant experience in the public finance sector.
Strong analytical curiosity, problem‑solving, and research skills.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail and quantitative analysis skills.
Ability to interpret data and apply criteria to generate analytical insights.
Ability to work independently and in a team.
Proactive, organized, and excellent time‑management skills.
Strong understanding of financial reporting and markets; knowledge of S'P’s analytical products a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and aptitude for learning new applications, including emerging digital technologies.
Compensation & Benefits Base salary range: USD $120,000 – $159,000. Final compensation depends on location, experience, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications.
