Laboratory Manager Job Description The Lab Manager will manage a team of Mold and Asbestos Analysts and other laboratory staff, provide leadership and be responsible for ensuring compliance of laboratory operations. The role includes maintaining workflow to meet turnaround times, improving laboratory functionality, supervising staff, and integrating facility operations with quality assurance, ethics, safety and other corporate and regulatory policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provide leadership and manage/assist other staff members in the operational team.

Assist with the coordination and timely completion of all analytical and operational training for the local lab staff.

Prepare and analyze aerobiological, environmental, and water samples for fungal, asbestos, and bacteria analysis.

Serve as an operational point of contact for clients regarding all services performed in the lab.

Coordinate with the local salesperson to assist with client concerns.

Determine local client needs and lead the effort in adding new testing services as needed to meet local client needs.

Coordinate the work of the local lab and assist in setting work priorities to minimize costs, scheduling conflicts or delays.

Review and modify group schedules based on current and projected workloads and staffing. Prioritize activities to ensure key goals are achieved and customer service needs are addressed. Manage personnel schedules for Monday‑Friday and Tuesday‑Saturday staff.

Build and maintain positive customer relationships through direct interaction with customers, project managers, and sales personnel.

Foster morale and teamwork; fulfill supervisory responsibilities with direct reports to achieve strong staff performance and mentor key employees.

Demonstrate and promote the company vision; communicate facility‑specific goals and objectives to employees and implement company initiatives designed to foster teamwork and communication.

Establish and maintain an active and positive safety culture and ensure that the Employee Health and Safety procedures are implemented and followed to maintain facility operations that are compliant with appropriate policies and regulations.

Review SOPs used in the facility and ensure their implementation so that the facility is operated in a compliant manner which allows it to produce defensible data.

Support the Human Resources function to ensure that all policies and programs are applied consistently throughout the laboratory.

Secondary Duties

Remain current on new technological developments and provide scientific leadership in establishing new analytical services as needed, working with Technical Director.

Assist the QA manager in development, implementation, and data collection of QA processes for the different analytical tests.

Assist in pursuing, receiving, and maintaining necessary laboratory accreditations.

Recommend and coordinate sample transfer as necessary.

Assist co‑workers with analytical questions as necessary.

Ordering and inventory control for lab supplies and equipment.

Support other labs within the region when appropriate and as needed. Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Business Unit.

Qualifications

Strong professional background in working with Mold and Asbestos samples.

Previous supervisory/management experience required, preferably 2 years.

BS degree in Microbiology, Biology, or an equivalent degree.

Minimum 3 years of previous hands‑on laboratory experience.

Compensation Candidates who qualify with minimum requirements start at $75,000 annually. Higher compensation will be considered for more qualified and experienced candidates.

Employment Type Full‑time, exempt status.
