Policy Specialist, Intellectual Property Google is seeking a Policy Specialist in Intellectual Property to join our Trust and Safety team.

Preferred working locations: Austin, TX; Atlanta, GA; Kirkland, WA; Washington D.C.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

2 years of experience in a policy, legal, Trust and Safety, or technology environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in technology industry business areas, such as operations, data analysis, and internet/online media.

Knowledge of intellectual property law, with a particular focus on trademark or copyright issues and their application in the digital realm.

Knowledge of the technology sector, its trends, and key policy issues affecting the internet (e.g., intellectual property, free expression, online safety).

Ability to execute analysis to drive development.

Excellent problem‑solving and critical thinking skills with attention to detail in an ever‑changing environment.

Excellent project management and communication skills, with cross‑functional partners.

About the Job Trust and Safety team members are tasked with identifying and tackling the biggest problems that test the safety and integrity of our products. They use technical know‑how, excellent problem‑solving skills, user insights, and proactive communication to protect users and our partners from abuse across Google products like Search, Maps, Gmail, and Google Ads. As an Intellectual Property Policy Specialist, you will be a thought leader on content moderation issues, creating policies that balance compliance with local law, user expression, and public interest. You will manage removal requests from stakeholders and users, oversee content operations to ensure compliance and quality, and collaborate with stakeholders across Google.

The US base salary range for this full‑time position is $105,000-$151,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, not including bonus, equity, or benefits.

Responsibilities

Lead discussions as a thought leader for legal removals issues by identifying and analyzing trademark, counterfeit, or copyright content moderation trends and key policy issues affecting the Internet. Engage cross‑functional stakeholders on emerging regulations and their implications for the legal removals landscape at Google.

Manage content operations and drive escalations of sensitive requests by liaising with Product, Public Policy, Communications, and Legal teams, balancing legal considerations to effectively resolve issues.

Develop and launch policies and guidelines for managing large volumes of copyright requests.

Participate in the on‑call rotation schedule to manage high‑priority escalations outside of standard non‑working hours, including weekends and holidays.

Comfortably expose yourself to graphic, controversial, or upsetting content.
