VP, Investment Portfolio Implementation

(functionally titled as Manager) Downtown - Chicago, IL – 4 days onsite per week

Position Summary The Manager of Investment Portfolio Implementation leads a team that supports Portfolio Managers by executing investment strategies, ensuring compliance, and managing client-specific guidelines. This role acts as a critical liaison between investment teams, trading, and operations to oversee order origination, cash flow management, and portfolio monitoring. The ideal candidate combines hands-on execution with strategic leadership to enhance portfolio workflows and drive operational excellence.

Duties and Responsibilities

Collaborate with Portfolio Managers and Traders to implement investment strategies across all client and product types, including funds, institutional accounts, and model delivery platforms. Lead day-to-day operations of the Institutional Portfolio Implementation team by coaching team members, providing feedback, fostering development, and serving as the escalation point. Monitor portfolio dispersion and recommend rebalances or adjustments to Portfolio Managers. Conduct pre-trade compliance reviews; ensure portfolio positions adhere to client and regulatory guidelines and coordinate resolution with Compliance and Client Service teams. Monitor and manage cash levels across portfolios to meet client directives. Perform account onboarding and transition activities; translate client guidelines into Charles River IMS rules; participate in Investment Management Agreement (IMA) reviews. Respond to ad hoc requests from Portfolio Managers and provide analytical support to enhance portfolio deliverables. Execute trading updates for model delivery clients per trade rotation policies. Originate, validate, and understand derivative transactions. Coordinate corporate action elections in collaboration with the PM team. Facilitate unique portfolio scenarios including in-kind transfers, new account openings/terminations, cross trades, secondary offerings, and private placements. Engage in error remediation efforts and recommend control improvements. Lead process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements. Perform order management workflows and conduct portfolio analysis using the platform. Collaborate cross-functionally with IT (Charles River IMS), Traders (ensuring complete info for best execution, and Operations (to confirm cash and position accuracy). Provide oversight and guidance on standard workflows; train junior team members and take on advanced and complex trading situations. Contribute to new product development and testing initiatives. Maintain and enforce controls and procedures for order origination and compliance in line with SOC requirements. Lead team meetings on procedural changes, control updates, and project updates. Adapt department procedures in response to new products, regulatory changes, and organizational shifts.

Requirements:

7+ years of investment management experience. Proficiency in Charles River IMS, Blackrock Aladdin or similar investment systems. Strong knowledge of investment products and regulatory guidelines. Experience with tax trading strategies, guideline management, and error remediation. Excellent communication skills and ability to liaison between cross functional teams.

Nice to have:

Familiarity with Bloomberg, FactSet, and Salesforce.
