T&Ts Supermarkets is marking over 30 years as Canada’s favorite Asian grocery store and recently announced multiple new store locations in the United States. Our growth into the US offers great opportunities within our first US flagship store, opened in 2024 in Bellevue, Washington in the Marketplace at Factoria, spanning 76,000 sq.ft. and standing as the largest Asian specialty supermarket in Washington state. We have established our regional office in the greater Los Angeles area to grow T&T Supermarket’s vendor base with American food suppliers. The Role
Major Responsibilities You will: Oversee and monitor ongoing food safety compliance at the store level, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulatory requirements and company food safety standards. Reinforce and deliver food safety training to all store-level team members, including Store Managers, Department Managers, and frontline employees, to ensure consistent understanding and execution of food safety standards across all roles. Work closely with operations, merchandising, and prepared food teams to integrate food safety considerations into all aspects of the business. Ensure food safety compliance across all phases of store development from pre-construction planning to store opening, including reviewing layout designs and confirming necessary permits and regulatory approvals are in place. Demonstrate a strong understanding of local food codes and Department of Health requirements to ensure store readiness and successful outcomes during regulatory inspections. Collaborate with Store and Department Managers to address findings from internal audits and regulatory inspections (e.g., FDA, USDA, local health departments). Assist in developing and implementing corrective action plans and monitoring their effectiveness. Coordinate and track third-party food safety audits, ensuring alignment with corporate audit protocols and U.S. regulatory requirements. Investigate food safety-related customer complaints and incidents; conduct root cause analysis and track corrective actions to drive continuous improvement. Identify, document, and follow up on food safety risks; ensure corrective actions are implemented and verified. Oversee and coordinate product recall activities, ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements and effective communication with internal teams, vendors, and government agencies. Develop and verify accurate label information for store-prepared products, ensuring compliance with FDA food labelling regulations, including ingredient declarations, allergen statements, and required consumer advisories. Oversee the development and maintenance of food safety-related in-store signage, ensuring all signs comply with local and state health regulations and effectively communicate information such as allergen warnings, handling instructions, and safe consumption guidance to customers and staff. Conduct vendor assessments (especially for local U.S. vendors) and ensure suppliers meet company food safety standards. Maintain accurate records of inspections, audits, training sessions, and corrective actions to ensure traceability and compliance. Support the development, rollout, and maintenance of FSQA policies, SOPs, and programs tailored to the U.S. market. Collaborate with third-party service providers to oversee pest control, chemical usage, and sanitation programs, ensuring alignment with company standards and regulatory requirements. Serve as the primary liaison with local, state, and federal food safety authorities during inspections or investigations. Monitor changes in local, state, and federal food safety regulations to ensure ongoing compliance. Engage in projects aimed at enhancing food safety culture and operational efficiency within the store. Perform any other duties as assigned. You Should Have/Be Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Public Health, or related field preferred. Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) certification Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) certification, especially relevant under the FDA\'s Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Certified Professional – Food Safety (CP-FS) credential or Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) certification Experience & Skills Comprehensive understanding of U.S. food safety regulations, including FDA Food Code, USDA standards, FSMA, and state/local health regulations. Familiarity with Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) recognized standards, such as Safe Quality Food (SQF) or British Retail Consortium (BRC) certifications. Experience in auditing (internal or external), food safety investigations, and corrective actions. Strong communication skills in English. Proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an asset. Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to work independently with minimal supervision. Excellent problem-solving, data analysis, and decision-making skills. Able to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced retail environment. Good computer skills, Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong skills in generating reports and analyzing data trends. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays if required. Willing and able to travel frequently within California and the broader U.S., with occasional trips to Canada for audits, training, and store visits. Valid driver\'s license and passport required.
