Canastota, NY. 13032 Reports To: Patrick Baldwin, Director of Operations Job Summary: Merlin Mold & Manufacturing, Inc. is seeking an experienced CNC Programmer to join our team. This role involves programming and optimizing CNC machines for mold-making and precision components. The ideal candidate will have expertise in plastic injection mold tooling machining, G-code programming, and CAD/CAM software, ensuring high-quality, efficient, and accurate manufacturing processes. Key Responsibilities: Develop, test, and refine CNC programs for mold components, tooling, and precision machined parts using SolidWorks and Mastercam. Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and GD&T specifications to create precise machining instructions. Program multi-axis CNC mills and lathes to meet tight tolerances required for mold and die manufacturing. Optimize tool paths, cutting speeds, and feed rates for machining efficiency and tool longevity. Set up and troubleshoot CNC machines, collaborating with machinists to ensure first-piece accuracy. Work closely with engineers and toolmakers on mold builds, repairs, and modifications. Maintain and update CNC programs, ensuring documentation accuracy and revision control. Follow safety protocols and industry best practices for precision machining and mold manufacturing. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 3-5 years of CNC programming experience in mold-making, tooling, or precision machining. Proficiency in SolidWorks, Mastercam, or similar CAD/CAM software. Understanding of mold-making processes, CNC milling, EDM, grinding, and manual machining equipment. Ability to read blueprints, mold drawings, and GD&T specifications. Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting machining challenges. Experience programming multi-axis CNC machines and high-speed strategies. Knowledge of materials used in mold manufacturing, such as steel and aluminum. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with 3-axis to 5-axis machining and high-speed cutting. Background in plastic injection molding tooling or die casting molds. Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement. Work Environment & Physical Demands: Work in a precision machining environment. Exposure to noise, coolant, and steel. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs. and stand for long periods.
