Business Intelligence (BI) Developer
is a full-time, non-exempt position based in any of our office locations. This position is a key contributor to the firm’s data-driven strategy, working closely with the Accounting Department and Data Team to deliver meaningful insights that support informed decision-making. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining financial and operational reports for Attorneys, the Executive Team, and Accounting staff in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The BI Developer also plays a vital role in building and sustaining the data infrastructure, ensuring seamless integration, transformation, and accessibility of data across systems. As a proactive and collaborative team member, the BI Developer serves as an advocate for world-class IT practices. The ideal candidate is creative, adaptable, and driven by a strong desire to make a meaningful impact—both through technical innovation and broader contributions that support the organization's goals. At Spencer Fane, we carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including your background and experience. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary. We expect the hourly pay rate for this role to be between
$30.40 - $39.00 , and will depend on your skills, qualifications, and experience. We encourage all interested candidates to apply. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Work with the Accounting Department to create reports from the accounting system for requested data. Create and execute SQL scripts as needed for back-end data updates. Maintain an accounting report library and tracks report usage and content. Collaborate closely with members of the Data Management team, Database Administrators, and the Senior Systems Developer, and provide backup support as needed. Manage and maintain SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports, including development, deployment, and troubleshooting to ensure accurate and timely data delivery. Optimize the performance of data pipelines, databases, and queries to ensure efficient data retrieval, access, and analysis. Implement data security measures and adhere to data governance policies to protect sensitive information. Build and manage ETL processes to transform raw data into a usable format for analysis. Work with business users, data analysts, and other technical teams to understand data needs and translate them into technical specifications. QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 3+ years of experience developing SSRS reports, with additional hands-on experience using Power BI for data visualization and reporting Experience with a legal financial system a plus Proficient in leveraging APIs for data extraction and integration from various sources Demonstrated experience in scripting and programming languages such as Python, Go, XML, Clojure, Java, and C/C++ High School Diploma or equivalent required; ITIL Foundation Certification preferred Familiarity with cloud data platforms like AWS, Azure, or Snowflake Solid understanding of database administration, including performance tuning, maintenance, and data security best practices Preferred experience with ETL tools and data warehousing concepts Excellent SQL skills for data querying and manipulation Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, and solve complex business problems Able to work independently with excellent time management skills and work effectively under pressure Proficient in software support, including OS and applications PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to perform repetitive motions required Ability to see and read PC screens, detect color coding, read fine print, and/or standard size print Perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion and occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency Must be able to operate routine office equipment including telephone, copier, facsimile, and calculator Must be able to routinely perform work on a computer for an average of 4-6 hours per day Must be able to work extended hours whenever required or requested by management Must be capable of regular, reliable, and timely attendance DISCLAIMER The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position.
