Job DescriptionJob Duties Ability to assess imaging orders for completeness, accuracy and appropriateness. Involves patient/parent/and caregiver in care and exam/procedure. Demonstrates age-related competency and cultural sensitivity. Introduces self and role. Explains procedure thoroughly to patient and or parent before performing the procedure. Allows time for and encourages questions. Provides support and effective communications to other members of the department and healthcare team. Works efficiently as a team member. Consults with physicians, nursing and other technologists to provide quality imaging services. Adheres to a culture of safety. Washes hands and sanitizes equipment as directed. Assure timeliness and accuracy when performing requested exams. Performs ultrasound exams per protocol. Follows through with notification of appropriate parties ofany variations and or changes of requested exam. Utilizes safety behaviors to avoid image corrections Properly documents into Hospital Information System Covers at satellite locations as needed. Notifies appropriate ordering provider of recommended changes to ordered exam. Provides support to other modalities within the department as required Performs diagnostic exams for all areas supported by the department of Radiology including, but not limited to the ED, OR, inpatient units and outpatient clinics. Reviews work environment to ensure all supplies are not past expiration. Educates and mentors sonography skills of new hires and students. Evaluates clinical and technical proficiency. Successfully utilize information technology systems associated with role. Uploads outside studies into Hospital Information System. Burns CD's when necessary of imaging studies. Assures that images and documentation are complete and accurate in the patient medical record. Adheres to all hospital and department policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols. Coordinates equipment service as required. Places service requests for any equipment and communicates the request to others. May be called upon to cover nights, evenings, weekdays, weekends and holidays. Rotates shifts and scheduled on-call responsibilities. Demonstrates support for the mission, values and goals of the organization through behaviors consistent with the organizational standards. Demonstrates exemplary customer service. Practices within their scope Assists in requirements needed for approved trial/research studies. Continuously maintains and promotes a safe environment. Responds to on-call duties promptly according to guidelines Performs other related duties as required. Performs ultrasound procedures by positioning patients, using appropriate transducers and correct scanning sequences to produce an accurate image Provides and ensures optimal technical quality and accuracy of all Ultrasound examinations according to the American College of Radiology (ACR) standards. Transports sterile trays following procedures according to guidelines Organizes images, measurements, calculations and other data in a logical sequence for presentation to the Radiologist for interpretation. Consults as requested regarding the quality of images and data obtained with Radiologist and providers.ResponsibilitiesEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Position Specific Job Education and/or Experience One year Ultrasound experience preferred. One year of pediatric experience preferred. Certification in pediatric ultrasound preferredLICENSE and/or CERTIFICATION REQUIRED Credentialed from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within one year for recent graduates. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification completed within 30 days of hire, and maintained thereafterKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREDKNOWLEDGE OF: Positive attitude with excellent interpersonal and communications skills. Exemplary customer service skills. Competency in caring for patients treated at Connecticut Children's regardless of age, disability, gender and ethnicity. SKILLS: Strong knowledge of Ultrasound technical scanning parameters and equipment operation.
