About The Role
FTI Consulting's Public Affairs Industrials segment specializes in providing strategic communications services to clients in the industrials sector. This includes companies involved in manufacturing, infrastructure, transportation, and other industrial services. The team offers expert counsel to help clients navigate complex regulatory environments, manage public perception, and engage effectively with stakeholders. Services encompass media relations, crisis communications, public policy advocacy, and reputation management. By leveraging deep industry knowledge and a global network, the Public Affairs Industrials team assists clients in addressing challenges and seizing opportunities within the industrials sector.
The Consultant will primarily support team members in the execution of various projects and campaigns. The Consultant will conduct research for ongoing client projects, will work with account teams on client deliverables, and will contribute to successfully meeting client goals and objectives. A Consultant must keep up-to-date on key issues and current events for their clients, as well as generally in relevant industries.
What You’ll Do
As a consultant, you will support strategic communications initiatives by helping design and execute tailored programs that align with client goals. Responsibilities include:
Conduct research to inform the development of comprehensive communication strategies
Draft and edit client-facing materials, including memos, press releases, presentations, media summaries, social media content, and email communications
Monitor media and policy developments to prepare regular reports for internal and client use
Assist in tracking program performance and creating progress reports
Identify and research relevant stakeholders and target audiences
Evaluate and recommend timely editorial opportunities and calendar placements
Provide thoughtful, responsive support to client challenges and requests
Contribute to the growth of existing accounts by identifying new opportunities and supporting project execution
Participate in mentoring and providing feedback to interns as part of their professional development
Client Delivery
Develop a strong understanding of each client’s business strategy, services, key stakeholders, and competitive landscape
Support the execution of integrated communication programs across multiple client accounts simultaneously
Consistently produce high-quality, client-focused work that aligns with project objectives and deadlines
Prepare polished, client-ready deliverables efficiently and on schedule
Collaborate with managers to assess project resource needs and help coordinate task assignments across the team
Business Development
Contribute to maintaining and strengthening client relationships through consistent, proactive support
Assist managers in evaluating client needs and identifying strategic communication opportunities
Participate in the development of new business proposals, pitch materials, and presentations to help grow client accounts

What You Will Need To Succeed
Exceptional research abilities combined with strong public policy knowledge, excellent writing, editing, and oral presentation skills
Proficiency with blogging tools, publishing software, and social media platforms, including Twitter
Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple client projects simultaneously
Adaptability and resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment characterized by frequent change
A service-oriented mindset with a focus on client satisfaction and teamwork
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across diverse teams
Familiarity with Associated Press (AP) Style guidelines and best practices
High level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential and sensitive information
Self-motivated, proactive work ethic with the ability to take initiative and work independently
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word
Basic Qualifications
3 - 5 years of professional experience in public affairs, strategic communications, public relations, or a related field
Strong understanding of communications strategy and campaign execution
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft clear, concise, and compelling content
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks or projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
Proven attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, client-ready deliverables
Strong organizational and time-management skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in an agency or client-service environment
Familiarity with media monitoring tools (e.g., Meltwater, Cision) or analytics platforms
Understanding of stakeholder engagement, media relations, or policy landscapes
Experience supporting new business development or proposal writing
Familiarity with clients in the industrials, public sector, or highly regulated industries
Exposure to or interest in public opinion research or strategic insights
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, political science, international affairs, or a related field
