The Associate Instructional Designer is responsible for assessing course issues and implementing solutions that align with Excelsior University’s academic standards and best practices for adult learning. Working closely with instructional designers, technologists, media developers, and other team members, the Associate Instructional Designer ensures that course content is pedagogically sound, accessible, and aligned with university standards. The ideal candidate has knowledge of instructional design principles, online learning technologies, and assessment strategies. This role is key in maintaining course quality and supporting the university’s commitment to delivering an exceptional learning experience.
This position is based in Albany, NY, with the option for remote work. Remote employees must occasionally travel for meetings, conferences, and professional development, and should be available during Eastern work hours (8:30 am – 5:00 pm). The university provides necessary equipment, and employees should have a suitable workspace for virtual meetings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Instructional Design and Development team to support course maintenance. Apply instructional design principles to address critical course issues. Assess course issues and utilize appropriate instructional strategies, tools, and assessments for resolution. Ensure course content complies with design standards, accessibility, and online learning best practices. Review and refine course content for clarity, coherence, and alignment with learning objectives. Work with other instructional designers to improve course development methodologies. Qualifications:
To perform this role successfully, candidates should meet the following requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field. Knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., Backward Design, Bloom’s Taxonomy). Strong relationship-building skills. Familiarity with online learning and adult education best practices. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field. Over one year of experience designing and developing online higher education courses. Experience with courses for adult learners and non-traditional students. Experience in a centralized course development setting. Proficiency in accessibility standards and universal design for learning (UDL). Experience using data and analytics to improve courses. The salary range for this position is $55,000–$60,000, based on experience and qualifications. Application Information
