Job Description:

Airbus is seeking a Head of Engineering - Resource & Competency, a functional manager role that reports directly to the Regional Head of Resource & Competency and is responsible for all resources within the Mobile Engineering Department. This role focuses on employee assignments, skill development, training needs, performance assessments, and associated salary adjustments in cooperation with the Heads of Engineering – Projects.

Our engineers work on complex, highly engineered aircraft, involved from product development to manufacturing and direct support to our airline customers worldwide.

Your working environment:

Located on the Wichita State University (WSU) innovation campus, Airbus' first dedicated engineering facility outside of Europe hosts a team of 200+ support staff and engineers focused on aerostructure design.

Responsibilities:

Manage staffing solutions by transitioning, recruiting, or reducing personnel appropriately while maintaining redundancy in critical competencies and ensuring diversity.

Recognize significant achievements and address poor performance of individuals or teams when necessary.

Lead annual performance assessments to ensure fairness across all project and domain teams.

Understand and meet the needs of project teams, individuals, and the office to provide balanced staffing solutions with critical skills and developmental opportunities.

Support staff development needs and deliver identified solutions.

Participate in the annual promotion process with the Mobile Engineering Leadership team.

Promote proper ethical behavior by building a high‑functioning team based on trust.

Anticipate and develop competencies required for future and disruptive technologies, architectures, products, new ways of working, and sustainable designs.

Lead local Summer Internship, Early Career Development, and Airbus Global Graduate Programs.

Coordinate with Heads of Resources and Competencies within Airbus Americas to support a regional resourcing solution.

Develop multi‑skill component/program knowledge and capabilities.

Ensure succession planning for leadership, supervisory, and critical technical positions.

Inform staff of updates to technical processes, methods, and tools.

Advocate for skills and domain knowledge within the Centre of Competence and engage with Technical Authorities and Leadership.

Prepare Engineers for Technical Signatory status within the organization.

Participate in initial resource planning of work packages or activities and approve contractual agreements (Statement of Work).

Manage staffing levels and costs to meet resource cost targets and business needs.

Allocate annual bonuses and merit increases while staying fiscally aware of funding streams.

Collaborate with Project Teams to ensure a unified voice in front of customers.

Communicate resource needs with Talent Acquisition and HR and plan for resourcing events.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.

15 years of airframe engineering experience.

Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite.

Ability to work in a diverse environment and coordinate with many functions.

Detail‑oriented and self‑motivated.

High degree of self‑confidence, independence, and initiative.

Proven ability to operate at all levels below Senior Management.

Authorized to work in the US.

Physical Requirements:

Onsite 100%.

Vision: able to read computer screens and engineering documents.

Hearing: able to participate in conversations and hear production floor alerts.

Speaking: able to participate in meetings and communicate effectively.

Equipment Operation: able to use typical office equipment and some production tools.

Carrying, Lifting: able to move up to 30lbs (14kg).

Pushing/Pulling: able to move small office furniture.

Sitting/Standing: able to sit for long periods and stand for discussions.

Travel: able to travel independently on short notice.

Walking: able to walk through office and uneven production surfaces.
