Job Summary Chartwells Higher Ed is seeking a dynamic and growth‑minded
GENERAL MANAGER
to lead the campus dining and catering at St. Edward's University in Austin, TX. You will be responsible for maintaining this FEE account in accordance with the approved budget while meeting client expectations. The role includes fostering excellent relationships with students, faculty, guests, the client, and other university departments, while promoting the professional growth of the entire food service operation.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in employee meetings, reviews, and training programs
Manage in compliance with company established policies and procedures
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations
Maintain food cost while ensuring quality standards
Establish and maintain good rapport with staff, client, guests, and other departments
Handle financial reporting, annual budgets, and cash handling
Analyze and create trends for financial data
Manage purchasing and inventory controls
Plan menus in consultation with chefs
Apply knowledge of HACCP controls, proper storage, and use of food
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience
Eight to ten years of upscale food service experience, including six years at the management level
Experience in personnel management (hiring, supervision, evaluation, succession planning)
Proven track record of achieving company goals in compliance with policies and procedures
Excellent leadership and organizational skills with strong attention to detail
Strong supervisory, scheduling, training, and coaching abilities
Effective problem‑solving and conflict‑management skills
Ability to multi‑task and stay focused amid constant interruptions
Experience in food purchasing, cost control, and inventory management
Ability to create budgets, flash reports, financial targets, and forecasts
Knowledge of cash handling procedures and reconciliation of multiple cash banks and reports
Knowledge of HACCP controls, proper storage, and use of food
Monitor compliance with health and fire regulations related to food preparation and serving
Exceptional business etiquette and client relations
Time‑management skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
Strong catering experience required
High standards of personal integrity and ethical behavior
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
ServSafe certification preferred
