Advanced Practice Provider - Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner, Medical ICU Join the University of Chicago Medicine as an Acute Care Advanced Practice Provider. The Section of Pulmonary and Critical Care has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery.

Base Pay Range $130,900.00/yr - $167,200.00/yr

Job Description As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP, NP, PA), you will provide direct care to patients in collaboration with consulting physicians and the multidisciplinary health team. Your duties include:

Conduct comprehensive or episodic health assessments and develop patient care plans within clinical nursing practice and medical care protocols.

Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, and record findings in the patient’s record.

Screen patients to determine the need for hospital admission and make referrals to other disciplines as indicated.

Write progress notes, prepare patient workups and summaries, and obtain psychosocial history relevant to patient care.

Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain their necessity, preparation, and anticipated effects to the patient.

Evaluate outcomes of care delivered and initiate changes in the nursing approach accordingly.

Participate in the development of collaborative practice arrangements and assume accountability for patient care decisions.

Prescribe appropriate medications within the delegation of prescriptive authority and delegate tasks while maintaining a comfortable environment for the patient.

Act as liaison among nurses, family, physicians, and community resources for coordination of patient care.

Actively pursue required knowledge and skills for professional development and participate in quality assurance issues on the unit.

May participate in health education in the community, basic science and clinical research, and teaching students and residents in techniques and procedures unique to specific clinical settings.

Rotate through the procedure service performing lumbar punctures, PICC line placement, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.

Nurse Practitioner The Nurse Practitioner is an advanced practice nurse responsible for comprehensive direct patient care management. The scope of practice includes family support, teaching, staff education, consultation, and research.

Education and Experience Requirements – Nurse Practitioner

Licensed Registered nurse in the state of Illinois.

Current APN license Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree or equivalent experience.

ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.

ICU, Adult Critical Care experience highly preferred.

Physician Assistant The Physician Assistant is qualified by academic and clinical education to provide healthcare and patient services that may include educational, research, clinical nursing specialist support and administrative activities under the direction and supervision of the Director/leadership.

Education and Experience Requirements – Physician Assistant

Completion of an accredited physician assistant educational program.

Licensure: Certification in ACLS and by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and current and/or eligibility for state of Illinois licensure/registration.

ALCS certification required within 6 months of hire.

ICU, Adult Critical Care experience highly preferred.
