Ascension Wisconsin is hiring an onsite Chief Medical Officer – Appleton, Wisconsin to join our team!
Location: Appleton, WI Department: Medical Affairs Administration
Ascension operates 17 hospital campuses, more than 100 related healthcare facilities and employs more than 1,100 primary and specialty care clinicians from Racine to Appleton. Organizational Scope As a Chief Medical Officer for Ascension Wisconsin Fox Valley you will provide the overall clinical vision for the organization and oversee clinical activities and quality across the organization, which includes:
St. Elizabeth Campus – Appleton (350 beds; 24/7 emergency services; urgent care at nearby walk‑in clinics)
Ascension Calumet Hospital – Chilton (60 beds; 24/7 emergency services; extended‑hour urgent care)
Responsibilities
Lead and implement the clinical direction for the organization.
Oversee the monitoring, measurement, and quality improvement of clinical care.
Collaborate, develop, and lead the implementation of operational plans.
Develop and implement strategic goals related to quality improvement and management programs.
Oversee residency program(s) and maintain a competitive stance in recruiting graduates of the program.
Oversee the continuous improvement of services, policies, processes, and programs (medical practice review, governance, credentialing, privileging, peer review, medical information systems, telemedicine).
Formulate and implement operational strategies and initiatives (quality improvement, patient safety, performance improvement, physician recruitment).
Oversee operations, budget, financial targets, and human resources management.
Assist in evaluating new clinical business line opportunities aligned with the strategic vision, engage in strategic planning for service‑line business plans, monitor market trends, and implement new clinical initiatives as an executive lead.
Direct and oversee the process for counseling and managing physician professional conduct issues, ensuring adherence to medical‑staff decisions regarding peer review and behavioral issues.
Lead the development of continuing medical education (CME) and other relevant education programs for medical staff.
Collaborate with other staff to provide clinical support services to facilities and medical staff.
Assume administrative leadership as mutually agreed.
Ensure licensing and other governmental and regulatory requirements are met; participate in surveys and inspections by accrediting/licensure bodies.
Monitor major issues and trends in medical practice and health policy; advise medical staff and executive leadership in relation to organizational activities.
Serve as an advocate, intermediary, and facilitator with external regulators for regulatory matters.
Facilitate system training and implementation for physicians and assist in development of training modules and EMR features.
Facilitate the development, training, and implementation of High‑Reliability Organization principles for physician activities.
Professional Requirements
Physician MD/DO credentialed from the Wisconsin Medical Examining Board obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) – required.
