POSITION SUMMARY We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Dental Assistant Trainee - School Health Dental. In this role, the successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director or his/her designee. The trainee will receive guidance in performing all functions associated with dental assisting. The trainee will be provided with a mentor (dentist) who will provide didactic training to support clinical learning. The trainee will be required to provide supportive services to the dentist and/ or dental hygienist who is performing services and/or procedures in all areas of dentistry (General and Specialty practice). At the end of the 12 month program, the trainee will be competent as a dental assistant and will be eligible to take the DANB examination to become a certified dental assistant.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Learning and perform chairside assisting

Participate fully in didactic training and complete all assignments

Prepares instruments, materials and medicaments to be used by the provider as needed/requested

Takes, exposes, develops and mounts radiographs in accordance with guidelines

Sets-up and breakdowns dental operatory following all infection control guidelines

Maintains dental operatory in an organized and clean fashion

Assures that appropriate instruments and supplies are available for patient care

Prepares the patient for treatment by seating the patient, obtaining records, and apply protective garb and assures patient's comfort while waiting for dentist

Cleans instruments and prepares them for sterilization/transportation as per policy

Sterilizes and/or disinfects equipment, instruments and hand pieces following guidelines of the Dental Department Infection Control Manual and manufacturer instruction for use

Documents patient records as dictated by dentist

Assists the dentist in filling out charts accurately and processing the patient's forms and records either manually or utilizing the Electronic Dental Record system

Pours and trims patient study model impressions taken by the dentist and completes laboratory forms accurately

Assumes the standard of care related to infection control; ensure NYU IPC, OSHA guidelines, Joint Commission guidelines & safety are upheld at the station they are assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To qualify you must have a High School Diploma English speaking Attention to detail

PAY ASSESSMENT NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $41,024.45 - $43,326.38 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
