Medical Director – Office of Coordinated Care
Behavioral Health Services (BHS)
is seeking a visionary and operationally strong
Medical Director
to lead psychiatric services within the
Office of Coordinated Care (OCC) . This role provides clinical leadership across OCC programs, including Access, Care Coordination, and Street Health teams—serving individuals experiencing acute mental health crises, homelessness, and substance use disorders.
What You’ll Do
Provide clinical and administrative leadership to psychiatrists, NPs, and behavioral health teams
Deliver direct psychiatric care (20–40% of time), including MAT and crisis stabilization
Develop and implement clinical protocols aligned with evidence-based practices
Supervise psychiatric staff and support interdisciplinary collaboration across SFDPH
Lead quality improvement initiatives and system coordination with hospitals, shelters, and community partners
Represent OCC Psychiatry in community forums and interagency collaborations
Ensure compliance with HIPAA, regulatory standards, and ethical care delivery

Minimum Qualifications
M.D. or D.O.
with valid California medical license
Board eligible or board certified
in Psychiatry
5+ years
post-residency psychiatric experience, including substance use treatment
Leadership in community psychiatry, street medicine, or integrated care
Experience supervising psychiatrists and interdisciplinary teams
Strong data-driven decision-making and program evaluation skills
Skilled in trauma-informed care, harm reduction, and crisis intervention
Equity-driven, collaborative, and systems-oriented mindset
Lead innovative, person-centered psychiatric care for San Francisco’s most vulnerable
Collaborate across public health, housing, and justice systems
