Associate Manager of Collections

to support the stewardship and accessibility of its historic collections. This role combines collections care with digital innovation and international exhibition coordination, offering a unique professional growth opportunity.

Pay Range:

$58,000 – $62,000 per year (base pay). Eligible for full benefits, including health, dental, and life insurance, retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and 3+ weeks of vacation.

DUTIES

Help manage the care, preservation, and documentation of the museum’s collections, archives, and historic interiors.

Oversee and expand our web‑based collections database, making collections accessible on the museum’s website.

Support and help manage the international loan and exhibition process for Fashioning Power, Fashioning Peace, collaborating with 50+ embassies.

Maintain accurate records, cataloging, and condition reporting in line with professional standards.

Contribute to exhibitions, research, and public programs with collections‑based content.

Supervise interns and volunteers, and support contractors and vendors as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Degree in Museum Studies, History, Art History, or related field (or equivalent experience).

3+ years of experience in collections management, preferably in a historic house or museum setting.

Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in collections care, preventive conservation, and documentation.

Experience managing digital collections systems (preferably Rediscovery) and creating public‑facing online access.

Ability to coordinate complex loans and exhibitions, including international and diplomatic partners.

Collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively in a small‑team environment.

Ability to prioritize, multi‑task efficiently, and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion; adaptable and flexible in a dynamic work environment.

Effective presentation, writing, and customer‑service skills with strong verbal communication and excellent attention to detail.

Demonstrated success in engaging culturally diverse colleagues and stakeholders; bilingual language skills a plus.

Knowledge of early 20th‑century American history, decorative arts, and the life and legacy of President Woodrow Wilson.

Experience managing collections during capital projects or building closures.

Grant writing and fundraising experience for collections‑related initiatives.

Regular and reliable attendance is required.
