What We're Doing We are seeking a Software Engineer to join our team in Owego, NY, supporting the full product lifecycle of avionics mission computers. You will play a key role in translating customer requirements into technical solutions, defining software/hardware interfaces, verifying requirements, and integrating safety‑critical avionics systems. This role supports the design and certification of mission computers for use in modern defense platforms.
The Work As a Software Engineer Sr., you will be a member of a high‑performing, multi‑disciplinary agile team working to build the next generation of mission computers. You’ll collaborate across engineering disciplines to drive the design, development, integration, and verification of device drivers, boot loaders, and built‑in‑test libraries targeting LynxOS, WindRiver VxWorks, or Green Hills Integrity platforms. You’ll participate in team planning and meet your commitments to help the team deliver on technical performance, schedule, and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Embedded software development, including the design, development, test, and debug of device drivers, boot loaders, and built‑in‑test libraries to support safety‑critical avionics systems.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams on software/hardware interfaces.
Integrate custom‑designed hardware and FPGA with software in a lab environment.
Support documentation, error correction, and performance validation.
Participate in certification activities to include requirements and code reviews to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
Who You Are You are a results‑driven engineering professional with experience in software design for embedded systems. You enjoy working in a team environment, solving technical problems, and delivering reliable, high‑quality software for real‑world applications. You bring an understanding of C/C++, system integration, and software lifecycle processes, and are passionate about mission success.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent STEM computing field with 5 years related professional experience or 3+ years related experience required with a related Master’s degree.
Experience developing C code for embedded environments.
Familiar with developing and debugging software that controls embedded hardware, firmware, and FPGAs. Knowledge of hardware communication protocols such as PCIe, SPI, UART, and I2C.
Experience with full software life‑cycle development, processes, version control, and tools to meet DO‑178C guidelines.
Experience with real‑time operating systems (RTOS) such as WindRiver VxWorks, GreenHills Integrity, LynxOS.
Must be a U.S. Citizen; this position will require a DoD government security clearance at the Secret level.
Desired Skills
Experience writing device drivers and boot loaders, targeting Intel and PowerPC processors.
Ability to move from a component data sheet to a fully functional driver or control algorithm while maintaining traceability and compliance.
Experience creating and configuring embedded Linux images.
Experience developing test plans and procedures for software verification.
Experience with Git/GitLab, SonarQube, or Atlassian products.

Schedule for this Position: 4×10 hour day, 3 days off per week.
Pay Rate The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $93,200 - $164,450. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location.
