Position Summary This position is an East Coast‑based Associate Director, New York Region who will develop and lead major gift fundraising strategies for alumni, parents, and friends, managing a portfolio of donors capable of giving gifts of $250k and above, many focused on $1M+.

Responsibilities

Develop and manage a dynamic portfolio of ~120 university prospects to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective and current donors, including alumni, parents, friends, corporate and foundation prospects.

Plan, organize, and direct large‑scale fundraising plans that involve multiple campus and alumni stakeholders.

Write proposals for solicitation of individual, corporate, and/or foundation prospects.

Help manage and directly staff campus leadership travel including Chancellor, Vice Chancellors, Deans and Faculty.

Serve as an expert or lead development professional in a specific academic discipline on behalf of campus units.

Ensure that predetermined fundraising goals are met, implementing program activities to achieve a minimum of $1M raised annually.

Evaluate programs using data analyses and regional expertise, including planning and evaluating solicitation programs and making recommendations for improvements.

Recruit key volunteers who assist in advancement efforts.

Oversee the work of professional and support staff involved in the implementation of multi‑component fundraising programs.

Attend functions, meetings and serve on internal/external committees as a representative of the location.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of three years of leadership‑level or major‑gift‑level fundraising experience, demonstrating advanced knowledge of all aspects of fundraising, donor relations, and public relations concepts, principles, procedures, and techniques.

Demonstrated advanced working knowledge of the tri‑state region, including current issues of concern for both the campus and higher education generally.

Advanced knowledge of public higher education institutions, vision, mission, goals, objectives, achievements, and infrastructure.

Advanced knowledge of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Advanced written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including political acumen and the ability to establish and maintain good working relationships throughout the organization and with outside constituencies.

Ability to make persuasive and compelling presentations of goals and objectives for UC Berkeley to secure major philanthropic gifts.

Advanced organizational, analytical, and critical‑thinking skills, including creative and effective decision‑making and problem‑identification/avoidance/resolution, and strong project‑management skills.

Very strong skills in maintaining confidentiality.

Education Level

Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Salary & Benefits The budgeted salary range is $123,000 – $137,000, commensurate with experience. The position is 100% full‑time, career and is eligible for full UC benefits, including a 10‑day paid time per year for professional development. The role is exempt, paid monthly, and based remotely with a strong preference for a location on the East Coast. Travel requirements are 20% of time.
