The mission of the VCU Division of Surgical Oncology is to provide the Mid‑Atlantic’s most advanced, patient‑oriented, cost‑effective and safe Surgical Oncology Services, and to create the finest training environment for future Surgical Oncology Specialists. The Division is committed to enhancing diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.
Chief Purpose of This Position This early‑to‑mid‑career, open‑rank, non‑tenure‑track faculty position in the VCU Surgical Oncology Division seeks a candidate whose clinical and research interests complement and expand on existing expertise in the Division. The faculty member should focus on benign and malignant breast disease, support outreach programs such as Massey Cancer Center, and contribute to teaching Surgery Residents, Fellows, and VCU Medical Students.
Responsibilities
Teaching:
Provide instruction in Surgical Oncology with an emphasis on Breast Surgery.
Research:
Conduct clinical or basic science research in areas such as cancer disparities, translational oncology, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, or cancer genomics. Publish in refereed journals and present at national conferences. Develop interdisciplinary collaborations within VCU’s Massey Cancer Center, Medical Oncology, and Radiation Oncology.
Service:
Participate on University, Health System, and Departmental committees. Assist with recruitment, training, and placement of Residents and Fellows.
Clinical:
Care for Oncology Surgical patients on the MCV campus and community outreach satellite locations. Build an active surgical practice with Division and Department support.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery; Advanced training fellowship in Surgical Oncology or Breast Surgery; Commitment to outcomes, clinical and/or basic science research; Demonstrated ability to foster an environment of respect and professionalism for faculty, staff, and students of all backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
Record of external funding or proposal submissions.
Compensation Salary Range: Commensurate.
