Occupational summary

Responsible for oversight of research and day-to-day operations including finances and personnel management for the research program of Dr. Sweta Patel in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine within the Duke University School of Medicine. Will require close collaboration with Dr. Patel along with faculty and staff within the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine, Duke Global Health Institute, and Duke Hubert-Yeargan Center for Global Health. Work performed

Research operations

Oversee IRB submissions and renewals for US and Botswana-based IRBs Monitor supply inventory for ongoing studies in Botswana, re-order as needed, and coordinate delivery of supplies to Botswana Develop and implement action plans to respond to issues/problems identified during study audits or other monitoring activities Track missing data in REDCap, work with PI and study team in Botswana to resolve Monitor status of timelines and milestones for research studies (e.g., enrollment targets) Assist with drafting and revising study SOPs, train staff, and ensure compliance by study team Ensure ongoing compliance with institutional and Good Clinical Practice standards Ensure ongoing compliance of all study team members with required training (e.g., CITI training for all members, BLS renewal for study team) Ensure implementation of relevant Data Sharing and Management Plans Attend weekly meetings with Botswana-based research team and PI and monthly meetings with larger research group, ensure action items are addressed Coordinate sample shipment from Botswana and storage at Duke University, maintenance of specimen grids and logs Assist with preparation of annual grant progress reports Oversee REDCap database Participate in data analyses and contribute to manuscript and grant preparation Expected to travel to Botswana annually to meet with study team, conduct site training, and conduct on the ground oversight of study activities Financial + personnel management

Work with grants and finance staff within Duke Pulmonary and HYC for ordering and payment of goods and services Review spending reports for US and Botswana-based work HR tasks related to Botswana-based staff (e.g., leave requests) Minimum qualifications

Education : Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree; MSc or higher preferred. Experience : Minimum of 2 years relevant research experience OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience involving global health, research, or academic activities; candidates with interest in global health or international research are highly desired. Skills required : Technical : Regulatory/IRB process knowledge, study monitoring, knowledge of ethical research practices, data provenance and verification. Soft skills : professionalism, excellent oral and written communication, inbox management, attention to detail, flexibility, self-motivation, cultural sensitivity and comfort working with an international team Technical skills preferred : REDCap, MS Office Other notes

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position as USD $61,698.00 to USD $100,480.00. Considerations for offers include scope and responsibilities, candidate work experience, education/training, and market and organizational factors.
