Laboratory Patient Service Center Specialist
Position Summary:
Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Patient Service Center, including but not limited to opening and closing the service center, registering patients, ordering patient tests, collecting, handling, processing, and transporting specimens.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Performs proper specimen collection [blood and non-blood], including patient preparation, labeling, handling, preservation or fixation, processing or preparation, transportation, and storage of specimens; complies with all standards for laboratory procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to evaluate and select proper collection methods for age specific patients.
Completes specimen handling and processing including centrifuging all tubes and aliquoting.
Arranges for specimen transport using established procedures.
Collects, verifies, and processes patient registration data and test order/entry into hospital information system/laboratory information system and understanding of insurance plans.
Adheres to Compliance policies related to job duties to include presenting Advance Beneficiary Notice (ABN) of non-coverage prior to delivery of outpatient services.
Responsible for obtaining consent for treatment.
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
6 months phlebotomy experience.
Preferred:
Certified as a phlebotomy technician.
Previous phlebotomy training course in approved program.
Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment.
