The Director of Executive Operations serves as the primary strategic partner to the President & CEO and functions as hub for communication, coordination, and executive engagement across the organization. This role ensures that the President’s directives, relationships, and priorities are executed with excellence. The Director represents the Office of the President at high-level meetings, manages multiple boards and advisory councils, supports donor cultivation efforts, and provides senior-level operational leadership across regions. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES
Executive Operations & Regional Coordination
Travel between regions as needed to represent the President and interface with internal and external partners. Engage with community leaders, donors, and stakeholders to advance Goodwill’s brand and organizational priorities. Serve on community and civic group committees as appropriate. Serve as a professional confidant and trusted advisor to the President. Board & Advisory Council Management
Manage and coordinate approximately ten boards and advisory councils. Serve as the primary liaison between the President and board members, ensuring timely communication, briefings, and support. Provide concierge-level relationship management to strengthen governance and engagement. Coordinate meeting logistics, materials, minutes, and follow-up items. Communications & Executive Representation
Demonstrate superior written and verbal communication skills. Draft high-priority communications, letters, remarks, talking points, and reports for the President. Attend meetings, community gatherings, and events on behalf of the President, delivering remarks when necessary. Interact with the media or press as needed to represent the Office of the President professionally. Fundraising & Donor Stewardship
Understand fundraising processes and support donor cultivation activities. Serve as an essential partner to the President and the Goodwill Works Foundation in donor “moves management.” Coordinate cultivation events, campus tours, donor visits, and meet-and-greets. Calendar, Scheduling & Executive Coordination
Manage the President’s calendar with a high degree of accuracy, discretion, and strategic thinking. Coordinate with Executive Team members and manage their calendars as needed for cross-functional scheduling. Manage President’s customer relations management account, updating contact information weekly. Anticipate needs, resolve scheduling conflicts, and ensure the President is fully prepared for all meetings and engagements. Cross-Functional Leadership & Problem Solving
Lead cross-functional teams on key organizational projects. Utilize conflict resolution and facilitation skills to navigate complex situations and achieve productive outcomes. Serve as a professional, welcoming, and discerning gatekeeper to the Office of the President. REPORTS TO
President & CEO QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred (Business, Public Administration, Communications, Nonprofit Management, or related field). Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience supporting senior executives or leading high-level operations. Experience with board governance, external relations, fundraising, and donor relations strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience managing complex calendars, projects, and stakeholder relationships. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising and donor stewardship. Ability to represent the President and organization with professionalism, discretion, and executive presence. Skilled in facilitation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving. High emotional intelligence, diplomacy, and sound judgment. Ability to travel regularly across regions and work evenings or weekends for events when necessary.
