The Role We’re seeking an HR Operations Partner to help run and continuously improve the core processes, systems, and programs that shape the employee experience at a16z. In this role, you’ll own the operational details that keep our HR function running smoothly—from employee support to HR systems and data integrity—while identifying opportunities to make our programs more efficient, data‑driven, and impactful.
In this critical support role, you’ll partner closely with HRBPs, IT, Finance, Legal, and our HR Systems team to streamline processes, strengthen compliance, and deliver consistent, high‑quality experiences for employees and internal HR team members. This is a hands‑on role for someone who thrives in execution, has a passion for operational excellence, and wants to build a best‑in‑class HR infrastructure that scales with our growth.
Location: Menlo Park, CA or San Francisco, CA (in‑office presence at least once a week).
Key Responsibilities
Elevate the Employee Experience : Collaborate with the broader HR team and cross‑functional partners (IT, Legal, Finance) to align systems, processes, and practices that make every HR interaction thoughtful, seamless, and reflective of the a16z experience.
Uplevel HR Operations Through AI : Identify, evaluate, and implement AI‑driven solutions that streamline and enhance HR operations—improving efficiency, accuracy, and the overall employee and HR team experience.
Support the Employee Lifecycle : Administer core HR lifecycle processes in our systems—including onboarding, transfers, promotions, and offboarding—ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and consistency across systems and records.
Partner with HRBPs : Serve as the primary operational resource for HRBPs and HR leadership, providing timely, precise, white‑glove support on data requests, documentation, process support, and employee changes.
Deliver First‑Class Employee Support : Manage the HR email alias, field employee questions on HR policies and processes, and provide timely, accurate, and empathetic support that reflects our values.
Drive Operational Excellence : Continuously evaluate and refine HR operations and processes to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability; automate workflows, simplify procedures, and keep consistency across the employee lifecycle.
Provide Data & Reporting Support : Pull, validate, and deliver accurate HR data and reports as requested by HR leadership and HRBPs; ensure data integrity and responsiveness to support informed, strategic decision making.
Ensure Compliance & Policy Integrity : Maintain accurate HR documentation, records, and audits; ensure all programs and processes adhere to employment laws, regulations, and internal policies, and support communication of HR policy updates across the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in HR operations or HR administration within a dynamic, high‑growth organization.
Strong understanding of HR processes and compliance across the employee lifecycle.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and to deal with people in a manner that shows sensitivity, tact, and professionalism.
Strong track record of establishing credibility with stakeholders through exceptional attention to detail, responsiveness, and consistent accuracy.
Strong systems knowledge and comfort with data and reporting. Workday HRIS experience required.
Demonstrated ability to identify inefficiencies, propose scalable solutions, and manage process improvements.
Curiosity and/or knowledge of applied AI solutions in HR.
Proven track record of delivering exceptional employee support and building trust through responsiveness and accuracy.
Analytical mindset with experience in reporting, data visualization, or HR analytics.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Collaborative, proactive, and customer‑focused approach; thrives in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented environment.
Strong communication skills—both written and verbal—and a professional, empathetic presence.

The anticipated salary range for this role is between $166,000 - $193,000. Actual starting pay may vary based on experience, skills, and scope.
This role is eligible to participate in the a16z carry program and various discretionary bonus programs, as well as benefit and perquisite plans including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, 401(k), vacation, and sick leave.
