OVERVIEW The LA County Board of Supervisors declared a local state of emergency for homelessness. The County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are seeking qualified and passionate individuals to address issues such as housing, mental health, and substance use. Applicants may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with the opportunity for permanent County employment. Performance will be assessed before the end of the initial period.
DEFINITION Performs research and analyses to make recommendations in support of management decisions that directly impact major departmental programs and administrative operations.
CLASSIFICATION STANDARDS Positions at this entry‑level analyst class are located in central administrative departments or the central administrative office of a line department, under the close supervision of a higher‑level analyst or supervisor. Incumbents perform a variety of management staff support functions requiring discretion and care in handling confidential and sensitive information.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Research and extract information from relevant sources to provide valid and reliable data for analysis and decision making.
Compile information into meaningful formats such as tables, spreadsheets, or data files.
Analyze information using qualitative and/or quantitative methods to draw conclusions.
Develop and recommend programs or policies to address problems and improve operations based on research results.
Prepare reports, business correspondence, and memoranda using appropriate software to communicate information effectively.
Interact with vendors, managers, and external agencies in meetings, dispute mediation, presentations, and consultations.
Coordinate contractor, consultant, and outside agency activities to ensure successful program implementation.
Monitor processes and programs to ensure they are capable, stable, and progressing as planned.
Evaluate program effectiveness by comparing outcomes to goals to determine continuation, modification, or discontinuation.
Perform administrative duties such as file creation, document formatting, and routing while complying with federal, state, and county regulations.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Preferred degrees include: Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, Finance, Economics, or Organizational Psychology.
LICENSE Valid California Class C Driver License or alternative transportation method to carry out job‑related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS Physical Class II – Light. Positions require light physical effort, occasional light lifting up to 10 pounds, bending, stooping, or squatting, and considerable ambulation.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION To receive credit for a college degree, submit a legible copy of the official diploma or transcript at the time of filing or within seven days of application submission to HRExams@ph.lacounty.gov. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency by a recognized agency such as NACES or AICE.
EXAMINATION CONTENT Applicants who pass the performance evaluation during the initial period will be considered for permanent appointment as Management Assistant.
