JOB DESCRIPTION JOB SUMMARY A welder with approximately 4 or more years of experience welding together metal components of products by performing the following duties and exhibiting the following skill sets.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CRAFT
Grinds as needed for welding
Works alongside other trades to receive direction to accomplish assigned work
Pulls lines and helps set up as directed by supervisor
Follows jobsite cleanliness principles
Shows initiative and notifies supervision of work stoppages
Expert in SMAW process in all positions for CS
Expert in SMAW process in all positions for HY, HSLA, and CRES
Expert in GMAW process in all positions for CS, HY, HSLA,
Expert in FCAW process in all positions for CS
Expert in FCAW process for HY, HSLA, and CRES
Advanced mirror welding in SMAW, FCAW, GMAW processes
Expert in Stud welding for CS and CRES
Advanced in GTAW process in all positions for CS and CRES, socket and open butt
Proficient GTAW process in all positions for CuNi to Cu & CS, socket and open butt
Proficient in GMAW process in all positions for 5XXX Al
Proficient in GMAW-P process in all positions for 6XXX Al
Utilizes workmanship training to identify and correct weld defects prior to VT
Performs other duties as assigned
TOOLS
Advanced use of power tools (grinders, needle guns, burr motors, etc.)
Uses weld gauges to check for over/under weld
Correct set up of tools prior to use (heat, wire speed, tagging lines, drop tests, etc.)
Knowledge of power tool safety, (correctly identifying kick direction and pinch points)
Advanced in maintenance for welding machines (replacing tips, gas diffusers, liners, etc.)
Diagnoses and repairs complex issues with welding equipment
Performs other duties as assigned
PROCEDURAL
Understands fire safety principles (hot work tickets, positioning firewatches, 35' rule, etc.)
Practical knowledge of industry safety standards/training
Understands and adheres to preheat and interpass requirements
Reads weld symbols
Requires periodic supervision to accomplish work
Proficient working to PCP's
JOB REQUIREMENTS QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from a standard apprenticeship/trade/vocational school.
High school diploma or GED required and 4 or more years of related experience or equivalent of training and experience.
Ability to gain access to military installations.
Must pass a drug test and background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly and seek help with weights over 50 pounds.
Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs/vertical ladders; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This is a physically demanding position and may accommodate some physical disabilities. Physical dexterity may be required when performing walk thru and inspection of job sites. In the performance of the walk thru you will be required to transverse steep stairwells, vertical ladders and bending or stooping thru tight spaces. There may be occasional lifting of materials weighing not more than 50 pounds.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS This position works on the jobsite. There is exposure to hostile environments, loud noises, hazardous chemicals/fumes and airborne particles, smoke, extreme temperatures moving mechanical parts: high, precarious places.During work-site visits will be required to wear appropriate PPE including, but not limited to:
Hard Hat
Ear plugs or Attenuator
Safety Shoes
Dust Mask or Respirator
Gloves
