Position Purpose The DC Area Supervisor leads an hourly team and influences the entire distribution team to do the fast-paced work required to run the distribution center as efficiently, safely and productively as possible. This role handles management responsibilities for the team members under her/his supervision, ensures prompt, efficient, and accurate handling of merchandise, develops and implements team goals, and handles hiring, evaluation, development, discipline, and termination of hourly associates. The role manages 20 to 30 hourly associates.
Key Responsibilities 45% Managing Process: Ensures all operations procedures are followed effectively, evaluates current work methods, and recommends needed changes to improve efficiency. 25% Coaching and Developing Associates: Guides associates in daily operations, monitors productivity, safety, service and quality, provides training, coaching, and feedback, and performs regular performance evaluations. 15% Drives Results: Maintains inventory accuracy and control; reviews reports and identifies areas for improvement in key metrics (productivity, accuracy, quality, expenses). 15% Business Planning: Coordinates and monitors operations to ensure performance and production rates are consistent with the business plan, and reviews reports and metrics to analyze and plan staffing needs. Additional Responsibilities: Other duties as assigned by Operations Manager, Assistant General Manager or General Manager.
Direct Manager/Direct Reports Reports to the Operations Manager. Accountable for the direct supervision of work activities of others, including shift or multiple work groups; responsible for selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development.
Travel Requirements Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Physical Requirements Requires intermittent periods of continuous physical exertion such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
Working Conditions Located in a comfortable indoor area; any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Flexibility to work various shifts. Ability to relocate.
Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Computer skills in Microsoft Office and Warehouse Management Systems. 3+ years supervisory experience in a related field.
Minimum Education High school diploma and/or GED.
Preferred Education No additional education required.
