Requirements & Certifications
DOE Certification Requirements
(including volunteer coaches) must have one of the two certifications:
New Jersey Teacher’s Certification
New Jersey Instructional Substitute Credential (30 College Credits)
New Jersey Teacher’s Certification
New Jersey Instructional Substitute Credential (30 College Credits)
Proof of experience required for Substitute Certificate holder.
Coaching experience preferred but not required.
Must be available daily during the winter sports season.
All coaches must hold a current (valid) adult CPR/AED and Basic First Aid Certification.
All courses that the DOE approves for certification are acceptable.
All new coaches (starting 2007-2008 school year) must complete the NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course before their first employment as a coach. This course is a one-time requirement.
All coaches must complete the NFHS Concussion in Sports Course, renewed annually.
All coaches must complete the NFHS Heat Illness Prevention Course, renewed annually.
All coaches must complete the NFHS Implicit Bias Course. This course is a one-time requirement.
All coaches must complete the BeNice Program. This course is a one-time requirement.
Meet such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
