Job Description MITRE’s extensive engagements on hundreds of projects as well as collaborations with industry and academia to develop and apply novel techniques for effective and predictable systems of systems.

Our systems engineering work identifies, nurtures, and promotes use of innovative technologies for solving our sponsors’ and partners’ most challenging problems in transportation, aerospace, cyber, AI, mechanical, defense, health, enterprise business and other systems.

Digital and model‑based engineering

System architecting

Requirements Engineering

Mission and system of systems engineering

AI‑enabled systems engineering

Agile systems engineering

Systems security engineering

Mechanical engineering, structural analysis, thermal dynamics

Aerospace engineering

Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA)

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related degree program

Knowledge of systems, mechanical or aerospace engineering theory

Sustained excellence in academic performance

Preferred Qualifications

Experience having applied systems engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or similar learning to an internship or research/lab position

Experience in Systems Engineering tools such as: MagicDraw, Cameo Enterprise Architecture, Rhapsody, Stella, iThink, Anylogic, Systemitool, or relevant SE design tools.

Proven ability to work independently to learn new systems, mechanical, and/or aerospace engineering technologies, techniques, processes, languages, and best practices.

Experience with Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and/or Unified Modeling Language (UML)

Experience with Digital Engineering

Experience with Model‑based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

Science & Technology (S&T) capability assessments, trade studies, and analysis of alternatives

Experience with prototype design

CAD

Demonstrated interest in serving the public

Clearance In addition to passing MITRE’s employment background check, you may be submitted for a U.S. Government Security clearance. This is determined by the Department of Defense’s adjudicative guidelines for receiving a clearance, to include U.S. citizenship.
