Base pay range
$140,000.00/yr - $170,000.00/yr
The Elevator Pitch Are you a Senior SQA Engineer who thrives in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment testing both hardware and software? Do you want to help validate new hardware, firmware, and software for Evolv's Express and Expedite products—and play a critical role in supporting our growing fleet in the field?
Evolv is seeking a Senior SQA Engineer to design test plans, validate new features, and ensure quality across our physical product lines. This role is essential for qualifying new hardware, supporting existing systems in production, and driving quality across Express, Expedite, and Evolv's next‑generation platforms.
Success in the Role In 30 days, you will:
Develop an at‑to‑bottom understanding of Evolv's product ecosystem, with emphasis on the Express platform architecture, core features, and system behavior.
Execute manual regression and functional testing, validating new and existing capabilities.
Learn Evolv's SQA toolchain, including automation frameworks, CI/CD workflows, and SDLC processes.
Become proficient in Jira, TestRail, and internal reporting practices.
Debug failing test cases, file high‑quality defect tickets, and collaborate across engineering to assess risk and root cause.
In 3 months, you will:
Become a go‑to engineer for manual testing across key functional areas of the Express and Expedite platforms.
Contribute to the automation roadmap, identifying high‑value areas for automated coverage.
Recommend process or tooling improvements that increase efficiency, coverage, and product quality.
Lead or support release‑readiness testing, delivering clear quality assessments for Express releases.
Within 12 months, you will:
Become a subject‑matter expert (SME) across multiple functional areas of Express and Expedite.
Serve as a trusted technical resource, evaluating design and code changes and anticipating cross‑functional risks.
Influence new feature design by providing critical SQA insight, ensuring quality, reliability, and performance expectations are met.
The Work Hardware and Software Integration:
Test physical Evolv systems across multiple configurations, tablets, sensors, and hardware variants.
Validate new hardware components, microcontroller interactions, and embedded system performance.
Ensure robust integration across sensors, processors, and peripherals under diverse environmental and operational conditions.
Manual Testing & System Verification:
Own regression, functional, and end‑to‑end system testing for Express and Expedite.
Evaluate product behavior across on‑device software, hardware modules, and Portal connectivity.
Validate new features, enhancements, and integrations for correctness, usability, and performance.
Automated Testing Contribution:
Shape automation strategy alongside automation engineers.
Identify test cases for automation based on risk, regression frequency, and system impact.
Develop or extend automated tests for functional, integration, and simulation‑based testing.
Networking & Communications Testing:
Validate Wi‑Fi and Ethernet communication between scanners, tablets, and Evolv's Portal.
Analyze and debug network issues involving packet loss, interference, latency, or connectivity failures.
Use tools such as Wireshark, iPerf, and other utilities to inspect traffic, capture traces, and diagnose protocol behavior.
Areas you will evaluate: 802.11 standards (a/b/g/n/ac/ax), Wi‑Fi roaming, SNR, RSSI, interference, WPA2/WPA3, DHCP, DNS, NAT, port forwarding, network load, throughput, jitter, latency.
Defect Analysis, Troubleshooting & Quality Reporting:
Lead bug triage, isolate root causes, and collaborate with development to find solutions.
File precise, high‑quality defect reports with reproducible steps and clear analysis.
Communicate risk and release readiness to product, engineering, and leadership teams.
Release Coordination & Quality Gates:
Support or lead release‑readiness testing and validation.
Ensure releases meet quality gates, coverage requirements, and reliability standards.
Partner with Release Engineering, DevOps, and Product teams to maintain alignment on quality expectations and timelines.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration:
Work closely with developers, hardware engineers, product managers, and automation engineers.
Provide early feedback during feature planning to reduce downstream risk.
Contribute to documentation, training materials, and continuous process improvement.
Leadership and Team Culture You'll be joining a seasoned group of SQA Engineers (Principal, Senior, and Staff) who bring deep expertise across manual and automated testing. This role reports directly to the Senior Director of SQA, an experienced engineering leader who values clarity, accountability, and collaborative problem‑solving. The team is grounded in Evolv's values:
