Position Summary Reporting to the Associate Director of Social Emotional Learning, the BCBA will develop highly individualized Behavior Intervention Plans for students in special education who have not responded to earlier interventions. The role serves multiple sites—including San Jose, Redwood City, Concord, and Antioch—and partners closely with school psychologists, mental health providers, special education case managers, school leaders, and program specialists. Responsibilities include conducting Functional Behavior Assessments, co‑creating Behavior Intervention Plans with IEP teams, coaching staff on implementation, leading training for mental health providers, and supporting crisis‑level safety planning.
Essential Functions
Conduct comprehensive Functional Behavior Assessments, documenting findings and recommendations in compliant reports.
Design and propose Behavior Intervention Plans in collaboration with IEP teams; record plans in the special education database system (SEIS).
Design informal behavior plans in collaboration with school personnel.
Collaborate with Mental Health Providers to conduct quality Functional Behavior Assessments.
Provide ongoing coaching to teachers, ISE specialists, paraprofessionals, school staff, school leaders, and mental health providers on behavior intervention implementation.
Plan and conduct student progress meetings, coordinate behavioral goals, and objectives with school personnel.
Consult with school leaders to assess campus behavior needs and prioritize work.
Develop and deliver staff professional development on behavior intervention strategies for diverse audiences.
Support consistent implementation of evidence‑based interventions and create user‑friendly resources for special education teams.
Maintain collaboration with Network Support MTSS and ISE Teams (NeST) to exchange best practices and coordinate support.
Ensure the MTSS Team aligns with Rocketship’s core characteristics and supports student needs effectively.
Qualifications
BCBA (Board Certified Behavioral Analyst) or BCaBA (Board Certified Assistant Behavioral Analyst) license.
Bachelor’s degree and
in progress
of a Master’s degree.
Minimum 1 year of experience conducting behavior assessments and creating behavior plans for students with significant behavior challenges in a school setting.
BCaBA or less experienced BCBA will be supervised by a BCBA.

Familiarity with socio‑emotional learning, trauma‑informed education, MTSS, and restorative practices is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
Teamwork and ability to work with diverse populations.
Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic work environment.
Valid California driver’s license and willingness to provide personal transportation for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Social Services, Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling.
Experience working with elementary grade students and students with disabilities.
Familiarity with special education, IEP team participation, and related mental health services.
Compensation $80,000 - $100,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include health and wellness benefits, a 403(b) retirement plan, flexible spending account (FSA), and generous paid time off.
Physical Demands Job requires regular talking, hearing, and communication with adults and children. Frequent hand use, standing, walking, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds. Ability to climb ladders and work in moderate to high noise environments. Reasonable accommodations available.
