About This Position The Senior Data Scientist will work with Waystar Product, Technical, and Data Science teams to define, develop, and deploy predictive analytics and data‑driven strategies that deliver value on the Waystar platform. You will lead the development of predictive tools, mentor junior team members, and drive execution of data science processes across the organization.

What You’ll Do

Work closely with Product Management and Operational teams to design, experiment, and deploy predictive and data‑driven models that drive core product value.

Collaborate with Product and Data Engineering teams to gather, process, and analyze data from product platforms and external sources.

Apply machine learning to real‑world healthcare problems to improve outcomes.

Partner with Product Management, Marketing, and Sales to promote growth and address customer feedback.

Apply a proven standardized process to define, develop, deploy, monitor, and maintain models and strategies.

Translate machine learning concepts into business metrics and outcomes for the organization.

Manage workload and expectations with minimal direct oversight.

Lead process and skill development for other team members.

Collaborate with the Data Science team to increase quality and quantity of output.

Organize, plan, and execute large multi‑model, multi‑month projects.

What You’ll Need

Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, or a related field.

5+ years of data science experience in product‑enabled teams.

Deep familiarity with statistical and machine learning techniques (classification, regression, dimensionality reduction, clustering, multivariate methods).

Proven experience developing junior data scientists in technical, process, and real‑world application of machine learning.

Expertise in estimating machine learning model performance.

Track record of building and operating automated MLOps platforms.

Experience with attribute generation and reusable attribute stores.

Advanced degree in STEM or business fields is a plus.

Knowledge of healthcare revenue cycle operations and data flows (claims, payer payments, patient interactions) is a plus.

Experience with Snowflake/Snowpark.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with relational databases/SQL and R/Python machine learning.

MLOps experience.

Ability to code in at least one general‑purpose programming language (C#, Java, etc.).

Quick‑learner with strong multi‑tasking in fast‑paced environments.

Outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills.

Comfortable operating in early‑adoption, ambiguous areas.
