Senior Accountant
Chicago, IL | Full-time, Onsite
Base pay range: $105,000.00/yr - $125,000.00/yr
Position Summary The Senior Accountant oversees general accounting operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance with GAAP, and timely financial reporting. Responsibilities include account reconciliations, month‑end close, financial analysis, project accounting, and supporting operations with ad‑hoc insights. Strong analytical skills and experience with project‑based accounting are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Apply project accounting methods, including percentage‑of‑completion, revenue/expense tracking, and weekly project billing.
Support operations with financial analysis and data for decision‑making.
Manage unbilled revenue/WIP calculations and daily cash entries in the ERP system to improve close efficiency.
Review labor, materials, capital expenditures, and project profitability.
Maintain monthly balance sheet schedules and ensure proper documentation.
Identify and record accruals, prepaid expenses, and general ledger adjustments.
Reconcile AP/AR and prepare accurate financial reports.
Analyze financial results and recommend improvements to processes and spending.
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of financial statements.
Support internal/external audits and a 10‑day month‑end close.
Strengthen internal controls, document processes, and recommend system enhancements.
Collaborate with senior finance leadership on improving procedures.
Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
4–5 years of experience in accounting roles (staff, senior, or controller‑level exposure).
Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting, job costing, and percentage‑of‑completion methods.
Experience with modern ERP systems and project modules; NetSuite experience preferred.
High proficiency in Excel (large datasets, pivot tables, financial reporting).
Experience with general ledger management and month/year‑end close.
Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, and accuracy.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required.
CPA or CMA required.
