This opportunity entails leading a technical construction services group of resident engineers, construction managers, and inspectors across the HNTB Central States Office, covering Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Iowa.
The Construction Services Group Director will lead a construction services group focused on development and delivery of project tasks both in the field and in an office environment, while managing project scope, budget, and quality control for large and/or complex projects or programs.
They will coordinate project priorities, staffing schedules, and staff assignments to ensure clients receive appropriate resources timely. Responsibilities include technical coaching and mentoring, efficient staff utilization, and oversight of financial metrics aligned with office expectations.
The Director reports directly to the Senior Group Director of Structures, Geotech, and Construction Services, and is a member of the Office Leadership Team.
What You'll Do
Direction and supervision of development, monitoring, and management of operating budgets for group departments, coordinating with office budgets.
Oversight of group activities, establishing priorities, and assigning staff to projects. Collaborate with other groups, offices, and divisions on work‑sharing needs and opportunities.
Drive the implementation of the firm’s strategic plan and HNTB’s Sophisticated Sales Approach (SSA) in project pursuits and market development.
Drive the implementation of the firm’s Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA) through project delivery and contracting activities, including scope, work plan, and fee reviews.
Drive the implementation of the firm’s Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA), including work planning, monthly project reviews, and performance methods to ensure quality, on‑time, on‑schedule delivery to client satisfaction.
Assist in marketing responsibilities, including client discovery, proposal generation, interviews, and win‑to‑work activities.
Maintain client contacts to ensure satisfaction. Lead and assist in sales and marketing efforts for department growth.
Assist in development and execution of the office strategic plan; may participate on the Office Leadership Team.
Recruit, hire, develop, and retain department staff; support Department Managers with plans for staff reporting, performance, compensation reviews, and succession planning.
Actively manage assigned project activities (scope, schedule, budget, quality) and perform technical discipline tasks including research, reports, design, specifications, and plan preparation.
Lead a group of at least 25 (typically 35‑40 or more) employees.
Perform other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a relevant field and 12 years of relevant experience, OR
In lieu of education, 16 years of relevant experience.
What We Prefer
15 years of practical experience.
6 years of supervisory experience.
Client relationships and construction services experience within the Midwest region.
