Job Overview
Zurich Middle Markets is seeking a Property & Casualty Underwriter or Underwriting Specialist to serve as a customer advocate in Long Island, NY. The role focuses on improving the customer experience by understanding unique risks and offering end-to-end solutions for Middle Market P&C insurance needs.
Responsibilities
Develop and maintain relationships with brokers, partners, and customers across all industries to support business objectives.
Leverage P&C underwriting acumen across risk assessment, exposure evaluation, and pricing to generate and maintain a profitable book of new and renewal business.
Collaborate across business units — claims, finance, risk engineering, actuary, and technical underwriting — to gain extensive knowledge in a growing and innovative industry.
Use technical underwriting, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to grow and develop relationships with preferred distribution partners in an assigned territory.
Qualifications Middle Market Underwriter
High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the insurance or market-facing area.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting-support area.
Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment.
Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines.
Middle Market Underwriting Specialist
High School Diploma or equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market-facing area.
High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting-support area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 1 or more years of experience in the underwriting or market-facing area.
Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 4 or more years of experience in the claims or underwriting-support area.
Knowledge of line(s) of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines.
Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree.
Established relationships with property & casualty broker partners.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
CPCU and ARM a plus.
Compensation The combined salary range for this position is $73,400.00 – $152,200.00. For an Underwriter, the range is $73,400.00 – $120,300.00 with a short‑term incentive bonus of 10%. For an Underwriting Specialist, the range is $92,900.00 – $152,200.00 with a short‑term incentive bonus of 10%.
