Reporting to the Director of Competitive Insights (CI), the Senior Manager of CI will support Viridian’s strategic decision‑making by providing timely, actionable insights into competitor activities, therapeutic landscapes, and market dynamics. This individual will be a part of the Commercial Effectiveness & Planning team, serving as a thought partner across R&D, Commercial, and Strategy teams, helping connect external benchmarks to internal strategy. The role requires strong analytical skills, the ability to translate complex datasets into concise narratives, and comfort operating in a fast‑paced biotech environment.
This role is based in our Waltham, MA headquarters. Our office‑based employees are required to work in the office three (3) days a week.
Base pay range $147,000.00/yr - $180,000.00/yr
Responsibilities (including, but not limited to):
Serve as an internal subject matter expert (SME) on competitor mechanisms of action, early‑stage data, and broader competitive dynamics, while keeping current with global biotech and pharmaceutical trends across therapeutic areas of interest
Translate complex scientific, clinical, and market data into clear, concise, and contextualized insights, including presenting those insights in clear, compelling formats tailored for executives, R&D, commercial, and medical audiences
Act as a thought partner by linking strategy to external data benchmarks and competitive signals
Coordinate, support, and contribute to competitive intelligence activities, including attending and actively participating in key scientific and industry conferences
Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand CI needs, align on priorities, and deliver against critical workstreams, including developing and maintaining competitor dossiers and trackers using primary and secondary data sources, shaping product profiles for primary market research, and providing ad‑hoc support to internal stakeholders on inbound CI inquiries and requests
Actively monitor the competitive landscape, maintain and ensure internal CI resources up to date, while keeping current with global biotech and pharmaceutical trends across therapeutic areas of interest
Support the design and execution of CI team meetings and competitive workshops to strengthen organizational understanding of market landscapes of interest and key threats
Manage vendors, contracts, and budgets to support evolving competitive intelligence needs
Continuously enhance CI processes, tools, and deliverables to maximize business impact
Qualifications:
Requires a PhD in immunology, molecular biology, pharmacology, or related discipline
5+ years of progressive experience (postdoctoral, industry, consulting) in biopharma, biotech, or related sectors, with a focus on competitive intelligence; demonstrated experience with market research and R&D strategy is valuable
Strong analytical skills with a proven ability to interpret and synthesize preclinical and clinical data into actionable strategic recommendations
Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities with a track record of simplifying complexity and presenting insights with clarity to leadership
Highly collaborative, effective at cultivating cross‑functional partnerships, and comfortable influencing without direct authority
Strong project management skills with the ability to stay organized and balance multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment
Experience upholding ethical and compliant competitive intelligence practices
Familiarity with scientific databases, analytics platforms, and intelligence tools is preferred
Good understanding of early‑stage drug development is preferred
Strong commitment to ethical standards
Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, etc.)
Ability to travel up to 25%
