Imaging Tech - MRI Preferred Joint to apply for the Imaging Tech - MRI Preferred role at Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Job Summary Performs Diagnostic Radiographic and CT Scan, MRI, or Mammography according to department protocols, HFAP/TJC/local regulatory/CMS, State and Federal Regulations. Acts as first line interaction with customers, participates in PI/QC activities, assists in maintaining the Performance Improvement Program, promotes teamwork and good customer service, schedules and maintains supplies and equipment for assigned modality, and is responsible for accurately acquiring images and transmitting them to PACS.

Responsibilities

Positions patients and sets technical factors for all diagnostic procedures, setting high personal standards for film and image quality.

Follows department exam protocols and independently recognizes and performs duties without direct assignment, prioritizing work and using time effectively.

Completes all ordered exams per protocol and documents why exams are not completed.

Modifies patient protocols when needed and communicates with the Radiologist.

Greets patients, verifies identification, checks imaging request and special instructions, and confirms anticipated service.

Ensures all exams are correctly labeled with patient ID, date, technologist ID, and time.

Follows hospital policies to reduce wrong-site, wrong-patient, and wrong-procedure occurrences.

Ensures compliance with HFAP/TJC/local regulatory/CMS, State, and Federal regulations.

Maintains medical and surgical aseptic procedures and adheres to infection control guidelines.

Assesses pain interfering with imaging and contacts physician as needed.

Participates in Process Improvement (PI) activities.

Maintains a neat and clean workplace.

Assists Radiologist with therapeutic procedures by preparing supplies and techniques.

Educates patients and families about procedures.

Reduces risk of health‑care acquired infections through proper hand washing and equipment disinfecting.

Documents medication reactions/infiltrations on appropriate form.

Improves communication among caregivers.

Plans and assigns work efficiently based on departmental guidelines.

Conducts orientation and on‑the‑job training for department employees.

Assists in implementing the Departmental Performance Improvement Program and organizes PI documents.

Handles complaints professionally and reports them promptly.

Verifies studies for accuracy and quality in PACS prior to Radiologist interpretation.

Demonstrates safe use of equipment, reports malfunctions, and contacts service immediately.

Attends scheduled in‑service and mandatory training, communicating ideas for safer equipment layout.

Maintains all licensure and CEU requirements.

Demonstrates courteous telephone skills.

Adheres to attendance and punctuality requirements, notifying for absences.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Radiography

Sets technical factors accurately, utilizes radiation safety techniques, shields patients appropriately, and determines pregnancy status of women of childbearing age.

Wears radiation (dosimetry) badge as per protocol.

Uses personal protective equipment appropriately.

Performs radiographic exams at bedside and in operating rooms, providing diagnostic X‑rays to surgeons.

Mammography

Oversees regulatory compliance as defined by FDA and ACR.

Demonstrates high-level knowledge of protocols and equipment operation for quality control testing.

Coordinates activities to maintain compliance and accreditation with the Mammography Quality.

Facilitates annual inspections and required documentation for MQSA or ACR.

Works with technologists, physicians, RNs, physicists, and field service engineers to ensure compliance.

Provides instruction and feedback to technologists.

CT

Sets technical factors accurately to minimize patient dose and follows radiation safety standards.

Wears radiation badge and operates CT equipment per protocol.

Prepares, positions, and immobilizes patient, selects proper imaging factors, and performs IV insertion for contrast injection.

Checks calibration and verifies proper operation of equipment, reporting malfunctions and repairs needed.

MRI

Operates MRI equipment, screens patients for contraindications, and prepares patient for imaging.

Ensures patient is properly screened, prepared, positioned, and immobilized; selects proper imaging factors.

Performs IV insertion for contrast injection as needed.

Checks calibration, verifies equipment operation, and reports malfunctions.

Qualifications

Graduate of a program accredited by JRCERT.

ARRT (R) and ARRT (CT), or ARRT (M), or ARRT (MR) is required.

Must be registered, proficient, and able to work unsupervised in 2 modalities.

Current applicable state licenses are required.

BLS/CPR certification required within one week of hire. AHA & ARC accepted.

Skills

Able to demonstrate adequate technical skills and judgment for unsupervised work during on‑call, second shift, and weekend hours.

Possess interpersonal skills to interact with patients under physical or emotional stress.

Have analytical abilities necessary for imaging processes and procedures.

Adapt to changing pace and frequent interruptions within the department.

Present a positive attitude and professional appearance.

Comprehensive understanding of computer operations relating to patient information and management (CPSI, PACS, etc.).

Willingness to work as part of the department team.

Awareness of hazards like ionizing radiation and adherence to safety standards.

Ability to relay information concisely to department director, radiologist, staff, patients, and other personnel.

Work Conditions

Duties include patient care responsibilities with exposure to human waste and similar unpleasant elements.

Exposure to radioactivity and frequent stressful situations.

Lifting and transferring patients from table to stretcher.

Periodic exposure to poor lighting.

Additional Requirements

Regular workweek with additional hours often required.

Flexibility of work schedule.

Position requires frequent on‑call work and availability during hospital declared emergencies.

Location, Hours, and Compensation Work Location: 57 Prospect Street, Nantucket, MA.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 (full‑time, rotating shift).

Pay Range: $35.45 - $65.98 per hour; Salary Grade: SN1S15.
