Job Summary The Director of Pharmacy leads the Pharmacy department, ensuring safe and effective medication use across the organization. This role involves managing daily pharmacy operations, overseeing clinical services, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and focusing on regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and staff development.

Essential Functions

Oversee all aspects of the inpatient pharmacy, including medication dispensing, inventory management, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Supervise and mentor pharmacy staff, providing guidance and support to enhance professional development and performance.

Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement pharmaceutical care plans, ensuring appropriate medication therapy management.

Establish and maintain quality control measures, monitor medication use, and implement corrective actions to ensure patient safety and optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Develop, review, and enforce pharmacy policies and procedures to comply with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and best practices.

Assist in preparation and management of the pharmacy budget, ensuring cost-effective medication use and resource allocation.

Provide ongoing education and training to pharmacy staff and other healthcare providers regarding medication management and safety practices.

Lead initiatives aimed at improving pharmacy services and patient care outcomes, including participation in multidisciplinary committees and projects.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance.

Comply with all policies and standards.

Leadership Responsibilities

Supervision and Staff Management

Provide leadership, mentorship and professional development opportunities for departmental staff.

Schedule employees to ensure effective use of resources; consult with leadership on staffing issues.

Conduct performance evaluations, set goals and provide feedback on staff performance and development.

Strategic Planning and Financial Oversight

Collaborate with hospital leadership to set the strategic direction, including budgeting and resource allocation.

Monitor expenditures, ensuring cost-effective delivery of services.

Evaluate and implement new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.

Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures to optimize quality and efficiency.

Quality Assurance and Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies; oversee accreditation processes.

Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes as applicable.

Follow established quality control practices to ensure accuracy, consistency and safety.

Collaboration and Communication

Work closely with leadership teams to coordinate and improve service delivery.

Stay up-to-date with industry advancements, new technologies, and regulatory changes.

Staff Responsibilities

May work in a staff role when required; fulfill duties and responsibilities while meeting competencies.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field required.

Seven (7) plus years of direct experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree required.

Master’s Degree preferred.

3‑5 years of experience in a closely related field with Bachelor's degree required.

3‑5 years of previous leadership experience preferred.

Proficiency with Google and Microsoft platforms, healthcare software systems, and data analysis tools.

Licenses and Certifications

RPH - Registered Pharmacist as required by the State.

BCPS - Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist or other BPS specialty preferred.
