Overview
The Charge Nurse will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the surgical unit during their assigned shift. They will oversee the work of the other nurses and healthcare staff, ensure patients receive the highest quality of care, collaborate with other healthcare professionals to meet patients’ needs, and ensure the clinic runs smoothly. The Charge Nurse will evaluate and improve the quality of care provided in their clinical area and act as a liaison between staff and management. The Charge Nurse will work in various settings, playing a clinical role in the delivery of patient care.
Responsibilities
Ensuring that all nurses operate properly in a medical setting.
Providing hands-on patient care.
Observing nurses provide patient care and ensuring that they interact with patients in ways that improve outcomes.
Supervising nursing staff and monitoring their needs.
Coordinating daily administrative duties, including schedules, nursing assignments, and patient care.
Overseeing patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
Organizing training seminars and courses to educate new staff or introduce new procedures and protocols.
Evaluating staff performance along with the HR Director/Manager to provide correctives measures if necessary.
Assessing, monitoring and caring for patients.
Communicating with upper management regarding nurse performance, staff issues and changes to treatment protocols.
Creating a yearly budget for nursing staff.
Performing administrative duties such as creating staff schedules and ordering supplies.
Administers medication and controls narcotics for patients as ordered by the physician.
Serve as a resource for staff to maintain high standards of patient care.
Perform related nursing duties as required.
Assumes coverage for employees as needed.
Functions appropriately under stressful situations.
Can demonstrate ability to be flexible and organized.

Alden Surgical Center – 1580 W. Lake St. Addison, IL 60101
Pay and Benefits
Pay: $40.00 – $50.00 an hour
Benefits: After 90 days – 5 sick days per the state of Illinois requirement
After 90 days – Ability to sign up for Health, Dental, Vision, and Aflac insurance
After 1 year with company – 2 weeks paid vacation
After 1 year with company – Ability to sign up for the 401k program
Requirements
Must have a current certified license in the state of Illinois for RN and have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)
Must have a current BLS certification
Must have an ACLS certification
Must have a CNOR certification
Infection Control Training certification or at least 1 year’s work of experience with infection control
Must be able to follow the universal Precautions for the Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens
Must be able to handle different noise levels
Must have an associates degree from an accredited school of nursing or have an RN diploma. Bachelor’s degree is preferred
Must have at least 1-3 years of experience in a multi-specialty PREOP/PACU, preferably in a hospital or ambulatory surgery
Must have CDC training
Experience with Operating room experience
Must have at least 1-3 years as a charge nurse in a clinical setting
Must have knowledge of various EMR systems
Must have knowledge of health care laws and regulations
Must have the ability to be flexible with working hours
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English both verbally and in writing
Must be able to stand for at least 8 to 10 hours daily
Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs
Must be able to bend, kneel, and squat
Must have good problem solving and independent thinking skills
Must have great customer service skills
