IT Enterprise Architect – CenterPoint Energy
Job Summary
The Enterprise Architect is responsible for defining the enterprise architecture vision, guiding principles, standards, target reference architecture models, and the enterprise technology roadmap. This role connects business and technology architecture by creating and maintaining technical capability maps, ensuring consistent architecture decisions across the enterprise, and driving innovation through new ideas. The Enterprise Architect leads the development of proofs of concept, evaluates emerging technologies, and communicates findings to architectural and engineering reviews.
Essential Functions
Assess current IT systems and services, research new technologies, and create IT architecture blueprints.
Develop and maintain the enterprise architecture framework incorporating cloud solutions, applications, data, and security.
Lead architectural reviews to ensure adherence to best practices, governance standards, and enterprise policies.
Maintain high‑level reference models: functional architecture, conceptual data architecture, application architecture, and infrastructure strategy.
Establish and execute architecture management processes, including governance structures.
Communicate strategic themes and key business drivers to stakeholders.
Influence common modeling, design, and coding practices and facilitate reuse of ideas, components, and proven patterns.
Create, maintain, and communicate reusable enterprise architecture assets.
Identify improvement areas, reduce redundancies, and integrate changes into the technology roadmap.
Serve as the bridge between Domain, Platform, and Solution Architects.
Establish and enforce architecture standards, guidelines, and best practices.
Define and manage the innovation process, supporting minimum viable product development.
Ensure innovative ideas align with standards and guardrails.
Maintain Enterprise Architecture tools and repositories.
Develop comprehensive standards for architects across all domains.
Oversee product requirement documents, user experience, design, and code reviews.
Drive and administer the Technology Innovation Review process.
Consult on emerging technologies and architecture standards.
Manage application portfolio and identify needs for upgrades and training.
Lead the Architecture Community of Practice.
Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements relevant to the enterprise architecture landscape.
Education Requires a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
Experience
Minimum 12 years of IT experience, including at least 7 years in an enterprise architecture role.
Extensive expertise in enterprise architecture best practices, governance, and standards.
Certification in TOGAF with hands‑on experience.
Excellent communication and collaboration across multiple functions.
Experience with Enterprise Architecture tools (e.g., LeanIX, iServer).
Familiarity with cloud platforms and design considerations.
Working knowledge of change and release management processes.
Strong analytical and broad architectural skills.
Comprehensive experience with infrastructure, security, and application integration.
Commitment to compliance with laws, regulations, ethics, and company policies.
Respect for all individuals and adherence to company values.
Experience in regulated utility environments is an added advantage.
