Principal Research Scientist
Location: 450 Elanco Circle, Indianapolis, Indiana, 46221. 25% domestic and international travel required for project planning and external meetings.

Job Description Your day‑to‑day will include:
Conduct groundbreaking clinical research to develop novel, effective animal health products.
Conceptualize, design, construct and validate cell‑based in vivo and in vitro bioassays to screen activity and potency of proprietary biotherapeutic and vaccine molecules.
Design and validate cell‑based in vitro anti‑drug antibody assays.
Develop pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic biomarker assay reagents and assays, and provide subject‑matter expertise on pre‑clinical and clinical pharmacology flow schemes.
Keep abreast of scientific developments in the field and integrate new developments into research and development projects.
Provide expertise and specialized knowledge in evaluating new platform technologies; determine which technologies and processes best meet Elanco’s needs.
Proactively search for novel technologies or product opportunities; establish collaborations and research programs to deliver innovative technical solutions.
Transfer knowledge from research to development, to registration, and to launch, including the preparation of internal and external publications; ensure all steps follow company‑wide standards and best practices.
Analyze current product offerings to identify areas for further research and development.
Manage and oversee multiple research projects, ensuring each adheres to Elanco’s standards, protocols, and best practices.
Supervise 8 subordinates – Consultants and Senior Research Scientists.
Technical Skills and Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, or a related field, plus 5 years of progressively responsible post‑baccalaureate experience, or equivalent foreign education.
At least 5 years of experience in clinical product development, including regulatory requirements for drug, vaccine, and parasitology.
Experience conducting GCP and GLP studies and obtaining approval for parasitology, small molecule drug, and vaccine projects.
Team management experience.
Technical writing experience (papers for regulatory agencies and publications).
Experience developing clinical regulatory strategy.
Experience with parasitology technologies for farm animals.
