Field Service Technician – Plumbing

Role Overview The Field Service Technician – Plumbing is responsible for performing on‑site commissioning, surveys, installs, repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting of metering equipment and systems. The role involves both technical and administrative tasks and requires a journeyman level of plumbing skills or above. This position will travel to worksites from the home location in Maryland/Virginia/DC. Travel costs and any required accommodations will be covered by the company.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect, review and analyze electrical, plumbing, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems in existing buildings and proposed new construction projects to determine appropriate type and sizing of utility submetering equipment.
Install sub‑metering systems in existing buildings and new construction projects.
Retrofit existing sub‑metering systems with AMR (Automated Meter Reading) equipment.
Determine applicability of local, state and federal building, energy, plumbing, mechanical and gas codes and ordinances and ensure compliance with all such codes and ordinances.
Advise customers of necessary repair service including estimates, authorizations, sales orders and invoices, and make recommendations for preventative maintenance and other company products/services.
Handle customer complaints/issues pertaining to service, supply of equipment or repair work.
Ensure that all fieldwork is completed to the highest standards, following company protocols and customer requirements, and identify opportunities to improve quality control and quality assurance.
Maintain, calibrate and properly use tools, parts, fittings and metering equipment.
Prepare and submit fieldwork reports in a timely manner, including time sheets, project updates and site visit reports.
Promote a culture of safety to ensure that all fieldwork complies with safety regulations (including OSHA) and company policies.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in a field work environment of relevant fields (utilities, telecommunication, plumbing, electrical or mechanical service work).
Post‑secondary education, preferably in Plumbing, Electrical or Mechanical stream.
Proficient in aspects of the pipefitting trade, including service, equipment and meter sizing for new and existing installations.
Sound base knowledge of residential/commercial building mechanical, plumbing and electrical distribution systems.
Experience with sub‑metering systems, electrical devices, water devices and equipment preferred.
Independent worker with the ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
Practical hands‑on aptitude.
Troubleshooting skills and knowledge of the use of test instruments.
Excellent communication & organizational skills.
Have a great attitude and be a team player.
A strong understanding of health and safety on construction sites and in particular around electrical and plumbing equipment.
Frequent field travel (75‑100%).
