Applied Statistics Postdoctoral Researcher – Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) We are looking for an Applied Statistics Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Computational Engineering Division (CED) within the Engineering Directorate. You will engage in cutting‑edge research, design, and deployment of statistical methods to solve important decision and detection problems stemming from the Laboratory's core mission spaces. Expertise in Bayesian modeling, uncertainty quantification, analysis/design of computer experiments, statistical learning, big data methods, or general statistical consulting is desired.

Pay Range $117,900 - $135,060 Annually

Responsibilities

Conduct independent and team‑based research in and development of physical process modeling, image and video analysis, uncertainty quantification, calibration, design of computer experiments, large‑scale model architectures.

Design, implement, and analyze techniques in these areas.

Collaborate with project scientists and engineers in scope, planning, and modeling/simulation efforts for physical, engineering, and computational systems in physics, cyber security, biological and environmental threat detection, and more.

Develop, implement, validate, and document specialized analysis software tools and models; prepare detailed progress reports and briefings to support project needs.

Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including industrial and academic partners.

Organize, analyze, and publish research results in peer‑reviewed journals and present at conferences, seminars, and technical meetings.

Pursue independent complementary research interests and interact with a broad spectrum of scientists internally and externally.

Travel as needed to coordinate with collaborators and attend external meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q‑level security clearance requiring U.S. citizenship.

PhD in Statistics or related technical or scientific field.

Fundamental knowledge/experience developing and applying statistical/machine‑learning models and algorithms for calibration, uncertainty quantification, surrogate modeling, design of experiments, classification, clustering, anomaly detection, etc.

Effective initiative and interpersonal skills with ability to work in multiple disciplines.

Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to present technical information clearly.

Programming skills in at least one prototyping language (Python/R/Matlab) and one compiled language (C/C++/Java) for high‑performance computation.

Demonstrated ability to develop independent research projects; publication record in peer‑reviewed literature.

Additional Information This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension up to three years, open to those who have received a PhD at the time of hire.
