An established San Mateo law firm is currently seeking a
Mid- to Senior-Level Civil Litigation Attorney
to independently oversee the day-to-day handling of a complex and varied caseload, including general civil defense and specialized matters like Trust Litigation. The ideal candidate will have substantial litigation experience and be able to handle files from inception through trial preparation with minimal supervision. The attorney will support the Partner and other associates in file handling, appearances, depositions, discovery, calendaring, and scheduling. As a senior associate attorney, you will also be expected to delegate tasks efficiently to Paralegals, Client Service Coordinators, Clerical, and File Assistants. This is a full-time position.

Essential Functions
Initial case analysis of claims and investigation file.
Written status reporting of file, including analysis of how discovered information and procedure affect case strategy.
Preparation/Review of complex pleadings, law and motion (particularly Motions for Summary Judgment).
Preparing/drafting Special Interrogatories, Requests for Production, Requests for Admission; PMK deposition notices, preparing clients for depositions, taking and defending party and expert depositions.
Prepare case management conference statements, appearing at case management conferences.
Prepare briefs and attend ADR proceedings (mediation/arbitration).
Legal Research on complex issues.
Prepare Motions, draft Points and Authorities, and Declarations of attorneys.
Subject Matter Experience Preferred
Probate and Trust Litigation: Extensive experience with will contests, trustee disputes, breach of fiduciary duty, and complex trust/estate administration litigation.
Public Entity defense work including dangerous condition of public property, negligent conduct of government employees, Civil Rights §1983 Actions.
Automobile and Premises Liability Defense.
Commercial General Liability Defense.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Qualifications
Must be a member of the California Bar and in good standing.
Graduate of an accredited law school.
Experience: 3+ years' substantial civil litigation experience in a legal environment. Candidates with higher-level experience (5-10+ years) are strongly encouraged.
Advanced knowledge of civil procedure and evidence desired.
Strong understanding of trial litigation practices and procedures. Superior research, writing, and analysis skills.
Expert knowledge, Understanding, and experience of Law and Motion and Discovery (California Discovery Statutes).
Ability to prepare litigation budget.
Knowledge of California Personal Injury Liens, Medicare, or Howell a plus.
Significant Knowledge of Trust and Probate litigation is HIGHLY preferred.
Skill/Aptitudes
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Proficient computing skills, especially in the use of MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Proficient in using Clio or other Case Management Software.
Proficient in using Acrobat.
Proficient in using legal billing software.
Proficient in using HotDocs base programs (for both Judicial Council Forms and CACI Jury Instructions).
Proficient in using Electronic Filing in Federal Courts.
Experience with Dragon Naturally speaking software a plus.
Compensation Total compensation:
$110,000 - $180,000
(depending on experience level)
Competitive compensation salary based upon experience with performance-based bonus.
1550 minimum billed hours.
