The Opportunity Ally seeks a technologist who combines strong technical skills with cross‑team collaboration to own and grow the Enterprise API Gateway. This platform powers teams across the enterprise, and the role involves strategic ownership, process design, and customer‑centric improvement.

The Work Itself

Own the API gateway platform’s evolution, support, and maintenance, ensuring security, reliability, and operational excellence.

Establish operational business processes for easy platform use and proper triage of priorities.

Lead the platform team to streamline processes, increase developer productivity, and improve customer (developer) experience.

Build and nurture collaborative relationships with lines of business and functional teams.

Develop API standards, best practices, reusable patterns, and enforce policy compliance.

Provide support to enterprise development teams, including issue resolution and triage.

Serve as point‑of‑contact for assessments, attestations, audits, and access reviews.

Monitor and manage cost/performance, implementing improvements proactively.

Maintain platform security by implementing best practices and staying ahead of security trends and Ally policies.

Mentor and coach engineers to foster continuous learning.

Develop and execute strategic plans that align with organizational objectives.

Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including senior management, on status, progress, risks, and issues.

Demonstrate humility, collaboration, can‑do attitude, and the ability to multitask.

Required Skills

5+ years of leading platform teams and managing platform services.

Experience with API gateway platforms such as Apigee and Kong.

Solid understanding of API security (OAuth, JWT, etc.) or strong desire to learn.

Experience designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs.

Experience building and running applications on AWS.

Experience with API gateway policy management: traffic management, rate limiting, load balancing.

Proficiency in monitoring and analytics tools for API performance and usage metrics.

Programming experience in Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Lua, or similar scripting languages.

Experience creating comprehensive unit, functional, integration, and regression tests.

Proficiency with DevOps tools: GitLab, Terraform, and Infrastructure-as-Code.

Strong, methodical troubleshooting skills for API gateways and integrations.

Preferred / Nice to Have

Direct experience with F5, Nginx, or Kong.

Relevant certifications in AWS and/or API management platforms like Apigee or Kong.

Knowledge of network configuration and network security.

Benefits & Compensation

Base pay: $110,000 – $180,000 USD annually.

Eligible for annual incentive plan.

Paid time off: 20 days + 11 holidays + 8 hours volunteer time.
