Environmental Defense Fund . Overview
Investors play a crucial role in accelerating the transition to a sustainable and resilient economy. Despite global political changes, their influence remains significant in directing trillions of dollars. To stay competitive, investors aim to minimize climate-related physical risks, identify opportunities in a low-carbon economy, and influence carbon-intensive companies to adopt sustainable practices. Our vision is that by 2030, leading investors will be competing for climate leadership, leveraging their influence and capital to drive change and support low-carbon solutions. Role Description
Reporting to the Senior Engagement Manager, the Engagement Manager will collaborate with our engagement team, including US and international colleagues, focusing on relationship management with investors and financial institutions relevant to EDF’s Sustainable Finance team. The role involves driving climate progress by engaging with global investors to leverage financial sector influence, product offerings, and regulatory frameworks to promote corporate net-zero targets, plans, and investments, and to support public policies that accelerate climate action. The role also includes growing and nurturing EDF’s investor network, contributing to the "Investor Climate Insights Hub" platform, which provides independent analysis and tools to help the financial sector manage climate risks, identify opportunities, and accelerate action in key sectors. Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain a landscape of investors and financial institutions influencing carbon-intensive sectors such as oil and gas, transportation, biodiversity, hydrogen, and agriculture. Engage with financial sector stakeholders through outreach, sharing insights from the Climate Insights Hub, and fostering dialogue on mutual interests. Establish success metrics and tracking for engagement tiers, from information sharing to formal partnerships with influential asset owners, managers, banks, private equity, and insurance entities. Coordinate with other EDF teams to integrate investor conversations into broader organizational efforts. Collaborate with the Sustainable Finance and Marketing teams to develop thought leadership that communicates analysis, insights, and recommendations effectively to the financial sector. Travel to conferences, meetings, and events to promote EDF’s climate science and explore co-development opportunities with financial institutions. Contribute to EDF’s organizational culture, ensuring inclusivity and empowerment across diverse backgrounds. Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate experience in outreach, relationship management, and communications within sustainable finance or related fields, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build strategic relationships. Requirements include: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in sustainability, finance, or related field. Minimum 6 years of relevant experience, or 4 years with an advanced degree, including experience with the financial sector. Interest in climate change and climate risk. Excellent communication, relationship management, and project management skills. Proficiency in MS Office and strong writing/editing skills targeted at financial audiences. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with attention to detail and cultural competency. Contract Details
