Assistant Professor of Urban Horticulture
Position at the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, University of Florida. 12‑month tenure‑accruing appointment (30% teaching, 70% research) focusing on urban horticulture systems.

Expected Duties
Develop a nationally recognized research program in urban horticulture, collaborating with faculty, graduate students, government agencies, industry representatives, botanical gardens, and non‑profit organizations.
Design and teach courses on urban agriculture production, horticultural cropping systems, and laboratory courses as needed.
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students; supervise research and creative work.
Seek and manage extramural funding, contract and grant opportunities.
Engage in Extension activities, curriculum revision, and professional development.
Support the IFAS land‑grant mission in research, teaching, and extension.
Required Qualifications
Earned doctorate (foreign equivalent acceptable) in horticulture, plant science, agronomy, soil science, sustainable agriculture, agroecology, or a closely related discipline.
Broad experience in ecologically based urban horticulture and potential for excellence in teaching.
Strong communication skills, interpersonal relationships, and experience in securing extramural funding.
Commitment to the Land‑Grant mission and UF core values.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with economic, environmental, and social sustainability drivers of urban, space‑intensive production systems.
Understanding of how to bridge horticultural food production with other sciences to strengthen urban food systems and communities.
Experience with technology, agricultural engineering, or development of decision support tools.
Salary and Benefits
Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Tenure will accrue in the Department of Horticultural Sciences.
