Manages the HIPAA Program under the general direction of the Compliance Director.

Responsibilities:

Manages the HIPAA Program under the general direction of the Compliance Director

Maintains and develops HIPAA program policies, procedures, risk assessments, and risk mitigation strategies

Responsible for overseeing all ongoing activities related to the privacy of patient health information in compliance with federal and state laws and Kootenai Health privacy and security practices

Responds to inquiries and investigates complaints to facilitate patient rights under HIPAA

Engages in the development and implementation of audit and monitoring plans and participates in the development and delivery of educational and outreach materials

Responsible for reporting on program activities, maintaining investigation documentation and monitoring regulatory developments

Performs other related duties as assigned

Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field

Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential job function

Competent to meet age specific needs of the unit assigned

Requirements and Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree and Privacy Certification.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare auditing, billing & coding, legal or regulatory, or other related experience in the healthcare field.

Knowledge of the healthcare regulatory environment

Knowledge of HIPAA requirements

Demonstrated proficiency in project management methods and tools

Demonstrated ability to work independently

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to present findings and recommendations as required

MS Office product knowledge (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)

Working Conditions:

Must be able to maintain a sitting position
